My family is heading down for our first DVC trip and we have a Studio Savannah view booked all week. I keep going back and forth wondering if I should try a split stay at either the boardwalk or BLT for 3 days. Any opinions? On one hand a split stay sounds more hectic but we would see 2 resorts but on the other hand we might love AKL and not want to leave

If your a DVC owner and not a renter, you'll have many years to enjoy all of the resorts. Personally, split stays sound like too much work to bother.

I like split stays.... it gives you something to look forward to! But we do not have kids so with kids it may be a bit more work!

Also this upcoming trip will be the first split trip without our own car, so it may be more difficult. We always just loaded up the car so we still had all of our stuff just in case!

Since it is your first, you may want to keep it simple... but I would try a split stay at sometime just to see what you think! Normally people are all for it or completely against it!

Have fun!

In the last few months, we have done 2 split stays. It sounded like such a great thing - staying at 2 different places, different pools, etc. We soon realized that a split stay is alot of work with 4 people. You have to pack up all your stuff and check out in the morning, and you may not have your new room until late afternoon. We were staying in a 1 bedroom villa, so we had all of the junk that our 2 boys had collected, all of our clothes, and all of the food out of the kitchen to pack, store and unpack. We have 2 more trips planned this year, and it will only be 1 resort for us from now on!

I can't imagine ever doing a split stay. It would seem like losing a half day of your vacation, but I know many do enjoy split stays.

I also thought a split stay might be neat for our upcoming trip, but then my DH reminded me it usually takes me at least 4 hours to pack up all our stuff at the end of the vacation, so I am not sure I would want to lose a day if we were going for 1 week or less. Also as we have food delivered it would also mean transporting that all as well. If we are lucky enough ever to be staying more than a week, though, it certainly might be tempting as we may be ready for a break from the parks anyhow and it would be neat to experience 2 different resorts.

Personally I like to unpack and pack once.... I know other like split stays and if you want to do the dining plan for part of your stay it could make sense!!

I've found after reading these boards for a long time that split stays are a very personal thing. Some people absolutely hate the thought of moving and would never do it, and others really enjoy it. We always do split stays, either to try different resorts or to stay at a mod on weekend nights to conserve points. We have two kids, but they're not little, so no problems there. We love trying the different resorts and don't find moving to be a hassle at all.

I really enjoy the split stays too. I find packing very easy when I know I have to pack everything in the room. I've done it twice so far and am planning another in November. Provides an opportunity to see many resorts and also provides a chance to be near/view different parks in a single trip. For instance this time will be BLT and BCV. A few MK days and some Epcot days.

I, too, am of the preference not to change rooms during a vacation. If it were me, I'd keep the AKV reservation and enjoy your awesome views all week. :goodvibes
