Our highschool has cancelled all out of state trips, even athletic events. My neice was supposed to go to Niagra falls for a cheerleading competition which is cancelled. First they changed it to S.C. because the school was just against them going to Canada. Now the competition is off, and the coach just wants some place fun to take the girls for an overnighter. It has to stay in NJ. The only suggestion so far is Great Adventure. Anybody have any ideas??

How about Seaside Heights? Is that NJ?

Seaside Heights is NJ but we live in Ocean City, NJ. Another boardwalk. Also, the trip is in May before most of these things will be open. I was thinking maybe some sort of all inclusive resort with swimming, rec facilities, snacks, etc..

I went on a jr. class trip to somwhere in N. Jersey... I want to say Great Gorge. There was ice skating, skiing, and other stuff.

For spring time, there were alpine slides, and other stuff. There are quite a few resorts of this nature in Northern New Jersey, do a search and call it N. Jersey resorts... or skiing resorts.

You could do Atsion Lake/camping up in Wharton State Forest. (near the Southampton/ Tabernacle border) The lake may be open earlier, and you could wind up doing a nature/Pinelands lesson as well.

Clementon Lake Amusement Park is nice as well, smaller but still works.

Great Adventure doesn't open until April 5th.

There's a cool area off of Rt. 72... its a old terra cotta factory which has now "run down"... it was around back hundreds of years ago. You can see the ruins, and figure out why the factory closed.. you would never know its there, because you just basically pass it on the way to LBI.

You could do a lesson on the "lost" towns of N. Jersey, Ong's Hat, this town, and other things.

Island Beach State Park. Yes, its a beach, but the nature trails are fabulous as well, and its really great.

I was going to suggest Great Adventure too, that is where we went on a lot of our school outings.

I think what Cindy is talking about when she refers to Great Gorge is Vernon Valley Great Gorge, the place used to be called Action Park and now goes by the name Mountain Creek, it is located in Vernon, New Jersey. Here is the web site for the water park: http://www.mountaincreekwaterpark.com/index.jsp?path=home&page=home When I worked there they had a huge alpine slide, many water slides, a wave pool, bumper boats and many other things, not sure what it is like now as it is under new management and I no longer live near there.

Thanks tiggerlover... that is what I was thinking of. I went back in 1987, so I am suprised I even remembered the name of it.

That looks pretty cool!
It has definetely changed in the years since I have gone.
