I don't know if you remember my previous post, talking about going to Disney with both my sisters and their families, and my cousin, his wife & their child in 2013... Well, YDsis basically has said that she doesn't feel like going to Disney when she doesn't have any kids (and that it's too much $$), and my cousin and his wife are unexpectedly (but happily) expecting again, and they don't think they can come either. So, my ODsis and her family and I are still doing Disney, but now we're trying to come up with another good place to do a long weekend that won't cost too much $$, but will still be fun for us.

My cousin lives in Carmel, IN, and the rest of us live in the Philly/Wilmington, DE burbs. The Jersey shore is out (my sister doesn't like it, and honestly it's as expensive as WDW), but we'd consider most anywhere else - we like beaches, somewhere relaxing but with some nightlife (for my sister) would be nice...

I assume you all plan on those that are in IN, are going to be going a much longer way than the rest of you.? Outer Banks, NC.... of course, Maryland Beaches.....

Pittsburgh has a lot to offer for a family vacation.

Pick a hotel with a great pool and hit the local attractions. Dsis can have nightlife too.

Very nice zoo and aquarium

The National Aviary

Carnegie Museums- Natural History, great dinosaurs, Science center, Warhol art museum

Pittsburgh Children's museum

Kennywood park- fun for all ages. Award winning coaster park. A family friendly park where people still pack a picnic lunch, place it on a picnic table, go have fun for a while and return to eat their meal. Discount found on Pepsi cans.

Idelwild park-rides and Storybook Forest- nursery rhyme setting with characters and also Mr. Roger's Neighborhood- check Snyder potato chip bags for discount and AAA.

Sandcastle- waterpark

Phipps Conservatory- plants from around the world

And there is more...

Thanks for the ideas so far - keep them coming, please! I guess I should have said that we like water stuff - it doesn't necessarily have to be coastal/ocean. Either that or big city stuff (maybe Chicago?).

Thanks to the PP who suggested Pittsburgh - I'll definitely keep that in mind for ourselves, but my cousin's ex-wife lives in Latrobe, and that's where he grew up, so he wouldn't count that as a vacation spot... :)

Check out the Williamsburg thread. It's about an hour drive from Virginia Beach, and there's plenty to do.

What about Cedar Point in OH? That'd be fun for everyone, while being a little distance-friendlier for the ones in IN.
Soak City would get you the water fun, while CP would be along the lines of WDW.
