I am trying to get a handle on the usability of small add ons. For those of you who have small add-ons of less than 100 points, are you happy with your purchase?

We currently own 230 points at OKW and 200 points at BWV. Our DD is 7 years old and we usually travel in the summer and over New Year's Eve. We rarely book a unit bigger than a studio except when we travel with our friends over NYE. We have stayed in an OKW Grand Villa twice and we're sharing a two-bedroom this year. We specifically bought into BWV to stay there over NYE and we would probably use those points for future NYE trips. When we go in the summer we usually only stay weekdays and book a non-DVC resort for the weekend.

I have always said that if DVC builds at the Contemporary Resort that I would sell OKW and buy there no matter what the price. I love the Contemporary. My DH, however, loves AKL. It's his favorite resort. Rumor has it that DVC will build at both resorts about the same time. I want to buy into Contemporary Resort Villas and my DH wants to buy into Villas at Animal Kingdom. We are both too stubborn and selfish to give up our "Dream DVC Resort" for the other to have their "Dream DVC Resort". *sigh*

I came up with a plan to make both of us happy. I was thinking that we could buy two small 50-75 point add-ons at each resort instead of a larger more traditional contract. We could then switch between the two resorts for our summer trip by banking every other year.

What do you think? Does your small add-on work for you? Thanks for any advise you can offer :).

This is the strategy we use with our two contracts. They are not quite that small, but the concept is exactly the same. Bank one, borrow from the other and you get two years worth of points with home resort booking advantage each year.

See? Both your dreams can come true! :)

I think that would be a great solution!!!!! I don't have a small contract, but there's no real reason to limit yourself, if you can both have your way!

Thanks for your input :). The solution came to me this weekend while I was reading about a DVC member who had a small 70 point contract that she used every year for a week.

We have a 150 pt original contract at OKW, a 32 pt. add-on at BCV, a 32 pt. add-on at OKW, and a 60 point add-on at HH. The 32 pt. add on at BCV has worked fine, as has the 60 pt. add-on at HH. Through banking and borrowing and using the 7 month window (in high season) we have spent 2 nights at BCV over Labor Day in 2004, and 2 studios for 3 nights each during Xmas 2005. It does take more planning, but that is part of the fun. We used our HH points for a studio at Spring Break this year and will be using it for 6 or 7 nights in a 2BR at Xmas time in 2007 without any need to resort to the 7 month window.

Got to bid on those some contracts quick.
