We just bought into the DVC after touring SSR last year. In May we will be coming down for the first time as DVC members and I am trying to decide whether to stay at a 2 bedroom at SSR or at WLV? We are coming down with my parents and 2 children. We have a ressie at SSR right now, but got a call yesterday from MS that a 2 BR at WLV opened up... which one do I choose? Are the villas at WLV nice? We have stayed at the hotel several times, but never in the villas. Thanks!!

If WLV opened I would take that just because you will want to try all the resorts and if you can get into a none home resort you should take advantage of it .

You should always be able to get into SSR at 11 months.

TMHO I don't think you can go wrong with any of the DVC's but that just me.

Since you have stayed at VWL before, the villa rooms are very similar to the hotel as far as decor. I think it will also depend on whether you will have a car or not, as getting anywhere from SSR can be a long trip.

Some pros for VWL:

1. Boat transportation to MK (I know others have complains; but we love it).
2. You can watch the water pageant right from your hotel!
3. Whispering Canyon Cafe & Artist Point (if you like sit-down meals).
4. Quick bus trip to MK and it doesn't share with other resorts.
5. Free valet parking if you are DVC (oops, and have a rental car).

Cons for VWL:
1. If you get stuck in a villa at the end of the building, you have a long walk wherever you want to go.
2. Rooms are not as "new" as SSR.

Pros for SSR:
1. Easy walk to DTD.
2. Newer resort
3. View of fireworks at DTD (do they still do them, I'm not sure).

We just made the switch from SSR to VWL also. We own at VWL and in our 8 trips we've made so far with DVC, we've never stayed at VWL. We've stayed in the hotel portion several times.

Good luck with your decision!

we have not stayed at either resorts yet but viewed both on virtual tour on dvcmember.com site. myself, with chidren would chose vwl because close proximity to mk its just a close boat ride away. :thumbsup2 also better theam for the kids.

We were at SSR from 9 - 20 Jan and didn't see any fireworks at DTD and we had a few of the Cirque building

Thanks to all for the advice! Does anyone know if a "dedicated" 2 bedroom is the same size as a lockoff?

We have stayed at both with our DD and had a lovely time at both resorts. You really cannot go wrong.

The only problem with VWL is that we found the pool was mad busy a lot of the time so we ended up using the quiet pool. Not sure when you said you are going but Roaring Forks has been closed for rehab I believe, however that may be reopen now or soon. The closeness to MK is wonderful with kids. We went to MK a lot but did feel a little removed from the other parks and were less likely to go back to another park after dinner but that is probably just us. We would get the bus to MK in the morning for speed then get the boat home after lunch. We all enjoyed that a lot.

In a couple of weeks we are going back to SSR with dd2.5. THe pool there is great for her. She likes the zero entry, Donald splash pad and mini slide. Another thing we like about SSR is the closeness to the 'real world, 'when we wanted to go out for groceries or outlets. We like to walk to DTD with the stroller too, have a nice meal and a drink and wander home- no parking stress.

Both resorts are wonderful. I would have a tough time deciding too. As someone said earlier, maybe take VWL while you can as it isn't always easy to get into. We were amazed when it was available at short notice last May.

Let us know what you decide! Both are winners!

No...

A lock off is a studio and a 1 bdrm with a connecting door between rooms and 2 seperate hallway entrances.

A dedicated 2 bdrm has a second bedroom (either with 2 queens or sitting area) and all share the common LR, Kitchen area.

Hi!
I couldn't decide between SSR (which we own at but had never even seen :) ) and Beach Club, where we stayed two years ago and loved, so we decided to do both. We'll spend the first four nights at SSR (and I'm sure we'll totally fall in love with it) and then finish up with four nights at BCV. Sometimes it's nice not to have to choose!
