I'm hoping someone has had experience with running/exercising while pregnant. I just found out I'm around 5 weeks pregnant with #4. I've been running for over 2 years so I'm not just starting. Lately I've only been running about 6 miles 3 times a week on a treadmill and doing elliptical trainer 2 times a week because of a knee injury. I've read enough to know as long as I listen to my body and don't take things too hard I should be just fine. I'm wanting any advice, lessons learned, ideas on how to make sure I can keep this up throughout my pregnancy. I tried to run with #2 and #3, but I ended up so sick for over half the pregnancy that I just gave up. Assuming that doesn't happen again, what can expect over the course of the next 8 months?

Thanks!

congrats!

as long as you have been running, you can continue to run throughout your pregnancy if you feel good. the first few weeks you may have morning sickness so don't push it!

i'm 17 weeks right now and running most days of the week. before pregnancy, i was doing 4-5 miles a few days a week and more on the weekends. but since i'm pushing a toddler in the stroller and preggo i'm only doing 2 mile runs followed by a 2 mile walk. if you feel good, then go for it!

I ran during my pregnancy up to the 6th month or so. The thing doctor's are most concerned about is your heartrate. You do have to take it a little easy, and not let your heart rate go crazy. For me, I had to quit in my 6th month because I was just uncomfortable. My center of gravity was really off and I didn't want to risk falling off the treadmill. So, I just slowed to a walk and did it longer. I also did advanced tae bo through my whole pregnancy which got a little awkward toward the end, trying to get around the belly. :lmao:

Thanks for the upbeat advice. I really want to exercise as long as possible. I don't want to lose all that I've worked towards during the last 2 years. I've already had to slow down just a bit because of being out of breath and not getting my heart rate out of control. Luckily no morning sickness and I'm crossing fingers it stays under control this time.

I'm in awe at both of you. Dumbo_buddy - Pushing a jogging stroller is hard enough, but while pregnant would be just the excuse I need to quit. Rubato - You really did advance tae bo? I'm trying to picture my 8-9 month pregnant body being able to do that. I think it would end up being comic relief for my DH.

Thanks again!

don't be too awed! first off, my eating is out of control and i'm up 10 lbs already. and at only 17 weeks that is definitely NOT all bad. ugh. i'm incredibly slow but i definitely find i sleep a little better the days that i run. if i could only calm the eating down!

i don't know if i could do tae bo at 8 months! that's awesome.

i see you're in hawaii. make sure stay very hydrated and don't overheat! i feel like as long as i'm moving it doesn't matter if i run or walk. so, if i wind up running a mile then walking three or running two and walking another two i'm fine with it.
