I am looking at booking a flight with either of these two airlines and was just looking for some feedback good and bad. Is either a lot better than the other. What do you recommend? thanks!

We are in Detroit and DTW is a NWA hub. I fly NWA for business often out of DTW. DTW has a beautiful new terminal. I have no complaints flying out of DTW.

We have also flown both NWA and Airtran out of Bishop in Flint. We have had no real issues with either. But the last two times we flew NWA out of MCO, we were delayed a hour. We were given FF miles as compensation. Airtran out of Bishop rarely sees a delay. The flight attendants are professional in both.

NWA is a participating airline for Magic Express, which means you can check in at the hotel if you are staying on Disney property. That might be important to you.

Both airlines are fairly good. If you fly out of Detroit, I would stick with NWA because thier terminal (even though its 1 mile long) is so easy to move through compared to the Smith Terminal (which AirTran is out of). All in all, most of the airlines these days are giving the same value for the money.

I would fly Airtran over NWA anyday. Everytime I have flown with NWA there has been some kind of delay. We got stuck over 3 hrs in Las Vegas waiting for our plane to come in so we could fly out. We were repeatedly told plane had some engine problems but were on their way. Finally arrives, we board only to be told more problems and were stuck on the plane waiting for replacement parts for about an hour. Same thing happened when my DH flew with NWA on a business trip. I fly Airtran direct out of Flint to MCO and never have had any problems at all. In fact our last trip this May they actually boarded early and everyone was there so they flew out 10 mins early!!

I always fly with airtran to WDW. Besides USAir they are the best airline around. I have never had any problems with airtran. Besides you can get some really cheap tickets online through airtran.com. Our airfare is only gonna cost $396 non-stop round trip for 2 people. I'm hoping I can get the $89 internet deal they usually have though. Then it will be $356 non-stop round trip for 2 people.

My ds, who is in college near Erie, flies NWA several times. He flies out of Erie Internationl to Detroit and then on to Philly. Once had a delay---but that was weather related so we don't hold it against them. But once they lost his luggage. He was home for a semester break---took 48 hours for them to find his luggage and they delivered it to our door. We were a little ticked with the NWA customer service at Phila International. Once we assumed his luggage was lost (about 1/2 dozen other passengers as well were missing luggage) it took close to 1 hour for a NWA staff member to open the customer service office and then another 30 min to wait in line to file a report.
Only flew Airtran once----on time----no problems.

We love Airtran out of Flint! I live in Troy, so Flint is about the same distance for us as DTW is. We had absolutely no problems with Airtran. Plane was new, crew was very friendly(that is saying a lot at 7:00 a.m.), and we landed ahead of schedule. Our flight home was just as good. We have stopped choosing NW because of past experiences (none of them good).

The only reason I would lean towards NWA over Airtran is if connections were involved. NWA could put you on another carrier if a connection is missed while Airtran does not have any of those agreements, so you can only get on the next Airtran flight if available.

If you are talking non-stop, either is fine in my mind. Cost would help me make my decision.

Good luck.

I would definitely choose AirTran. We've flown both to MCO and all in my family were much happier with our AirTran flight. Besides, with all the talk of NWA and strikes within some of the unions I wouldn't chance it. Last time I looked NWA was much more expensive than Airtran also.
