OK, in November I booked our June stay at the BLT and VWL(first stay since buying DVC) I scheduled us to leave on Saturday June 12th and stay until June 21st . We have four kids, the oldest was set to graduate from high school on June 4th. Well, all the snow we have gotten (totally unusual for our area) has forced cancellation after cancellation and right now we are looking at a June 11th graduation date IF there are no more cancellations (with the rest of Feb and March still to come, who knows what that could bring)
What is still unknown at this point is if the state will grant our district and exemption from the 180 days due to the state of emergency declared in PA during the first big storm. if that's the case, we are ok, but we have no way of knowing yet. The district could also decide to allow the seniors to graduate still on the 4th and continue school for the rest of the kids until they reach the 180 days. If that were to happen, I would just take a few vacation days (allowed by our district, although we never have done it) for the kids and go on time. All this is a big if though, and I don't know when I will know for sure what will happen.
So, here's the question. We still have 283 points available come June 1, should I extend our stay, adding days on now at whatever resort I can (hopefully BLT or VWL, but who knows) and then cancel the days I don't need once I know for sure? What happens to those points if I do cancel some of the days on the reservation? Or should I just wait out the storm and see what happens and then make adjustments as needed. I am just worried about what will be available still if I have to wait till April to know for sure.
Am I even making any sense? I may not be because my kids have been home for nearly two weeks straight and insanity is not a far drive :rotfl2: Thanks for any help and advice you can offer!

I booked my daughter to be staying at disney last oct in okw. Something happened they couldnt go so i cancelled the stay but it was before the 30 time period before the first day. The put my points back and i booked our up coming trip in mar. My son and his wfe and kids werent sure when they could get away before our march break. So i booked 4 extra days at same location, okw 2 bedroom and booked a couple extra at the end. When my son found out when they could fly out, i cancelled days we didnt need at least 30 days before our stay. Dvc booking suggested i do that when i originally booked so id have a choice. Doesnt hurt to call them and ask questions.

I recommend that you call member services to see what is available after June 21. If you are comfortable with what is available and have the points, you could modify your existing reservation or add an additional reservation to book the extra days. My guess is that the issue of make up days for school and graduation date will be determined before early May. You have until 31 days prior to your trip to cancel or revise your reservation without penalty (your points would be returned to your account).

If you do not feel comfortable using so many points, then I would consider the following:

Does it matter to you and your family which days you travel? If not, I would book your trip based on the most likely scenario (graduation delayed, trip beginning later/ending later).

Good Luck!

I 2nd this opinion. Give MS a call and find out your options. It is better to call now and try to get those extra days and cancel them (before the 31 day mark) then wait another month.

Since you have the points and don't have to borrow, it may give you at least peace of mind that things are set for the next few months while Mother Nature decides what to do!!

Good luck!!!

Make that three for three. Do call MS and find out what options you have.

I just saw that another storm front is hitting the Rockies now and will be coming your way. Better safe than sorry. FYI, if the schools are hurting for attendance could they suspend vacation days for the students? I could see that happening if the school district is worried about funding.

Wow, glad I don't live in the snow belt. Good luck. I think extending is the best option.
