Need advice - DD getting picked on for wearing Disney shirts!

I am sorry that your DD is getting picked on for wearing Disney t-shirts(something that she loves), kids can be so mean these days. I don't have any kids yet, but when I was in school I would get picked on as well for different things( that we're just dumb and wrong). If your DD likes wearing Disney shirts, I don't think she should stop wearing them to school( that's like giving in to them and letting them win~and that's what they want). I think the more kids that try and stand up for what they like and not try to become something they are not( just to fit in), the world of school could maybe get better. I know it seems like a hard thing to do, but then again is it?

Our 12 year old son stopped wearing his Disney shirts when he was about 8 or 9. He thinks that they're babyish.

It's a shame because character shirts are popular for the boys, as long as it isn't Disney.

I'm sorry too. My DD(11) has never worn the princesses but she'd wear other Disney stuff and then a few years ago she didn't want to and then we got uniforms... She'll still wear some disney tees at WDW but she'd rather wear a basketball tee shirt. She isn't into name brands and some of the girls are so I think she hears about that every so often. She's always been someone that marches to her own drummer and doesn't seem to care. I hope she'll keep that up sounds like if she can make it to high school, we'll have it made!

Good luck to your DD. Stay on top of that bullying thing. If I had a magic wand that is something I'd put an automatic stop to for anyone who gets bullied.

Oh I know, Kids can be so cruel,my DD now 11 had the same problem a couple years ago in 4th grade, when the other girls made fun of her Disney shirts, she was upset and didn't wanted to wear them no more. But then she told me she didn't care about those girls, and she told them that she liked Disney because it was cool and magical, and she loved her vacations in Florida. End of story! You go Girl.

BTW.. my two DDs ages 17 and 12 still wear Disney shirts and they don 't care if anyone says anythign to them. My youngest actually told one girl.."what am I supposed to do..dress like you? I think not!"

A big WTG for your DD!!! What a great thing to say. I wish I had been that quick with replies when I was that age.

Kids will pick on any and everything. The one thing your kids should know that may help them is the knowledge that everyone goes thru this. We all take our turns. Even the in crowd kids are teased by their own friends at times.

I think we could start a thread on all the things we were teased about when we were kids. I had a big mole on the side of my face that no one ever mentioned. My DS had one and was teased unmercifully by two nasties at the bus stop. So we went together and had molectomies! End of problem!

I can sympathize with you. DS (8) has already had two clothing realted issues. I have always alternated between tie/velcro/no laces/zip (nike style) tennis shoes. This fall I found a dark blue velcro pair and since he had complained some last year about having to tie his shoes all the time in gym...I bought the velcro. This was a big mistake for 2nd grade. We had to go get him some "tie" shoes so everyone would know he could tie his shoes. Then he informs me that the sports shirt that I got him was not an Under Armour...it was from Walmart. I know I shouldn't laugh but it he really thought I was confused. I'm like great....we are going from $11.97 to $30 for the right shirt. I did explain that it was a similar shirt just a different brand.

Some of this stuff just seems silly and it's usually fueled by older siblings or parents. My neighbors little girl informed my her mom did NOT like velcro shoes. I'm sure she refrained from the exact phase her mom used (ie dorky or whatever). This is why I tie her little brothers shoes everytime he comes to paly with my DS's.

I sure hope you DD hangs in there...it can be a jungle out there!

My son is almost 11 and in 5th grade. Since we all love Disney, its been a big part of my kids' wardrobes for years. Last year he started getting picked on big time for wearing Stitch and Mickey shirts occasionally. I let him decide what to do. On one hand I wanted him to wear what HE wanted and not some other kid but I also didn't want him to be bullied more than he already was. He ended up wearing them a couple of more times and then retiring his Disney shirts except at home and at WDW and DL. Then this year they started making fun of his shoes. Again, I let him decide and this time he decided his shoes were on his feet and they were going to stay that way. I was pretty proud. After a few days it died down but he still gets the occasional comment about his crocs. I posted a thread tonight on some scary bully issues, frankly I have had about had it with this issue! To the OP, good luck, there isn't really a right or wrong thing to do in this type of case. Maybe let your daughter just decide what works for her. Good luck!

my 10 year old (5th grade) girl wouldn't be caught dead in disney shirts with the exception of Grumpy (face it he's just cool). Broke my heart that she wouldn't wear the cutest winnie the pooh clan sweatshirt I bought for back to school. Oh well. Princesses are a definite out. The only ones that she'd even consider have to have a "cool" saying.

Now my highschooler wears a lot of disney shirts but the saying is important on hers too. One of her faves...Donald Duck asking "what part of quack don't you understand?"

The ones she'll wear: donald, mickey, grumpy, goofy. Maybe a minnie or two. That's about it.

I wish I had good advice. My son kinda goes to his own tune when it comes to clothes... He wears those men's short sleeve shirts with a collar (sometimes buttoned up, with one button undone and sometimes unbuttoned) with a undershirt or his new thing is baseball type shirts w/o a logo with the short sleeve shirt over it unbuttoned.
Funny thing is, he has been wearing these type shirts for 3 years now, and just in the past year have we noticed they are popular down here (he started wearing them in Alaska).

I could see him wearing a Disneyshirt ( tinkerbell or something) just to rile people up and get attention... (wear it like once... not a common every day thing).

We were joking when he started school he would wear this MONGO sombrero, take in his little ukalale (sp?) {both are just decorational things... I picked up in Mexico for him}.
He wouldn't really, but it's fun to joke...
