Anyone have any recommendations? It doesn't need to be totally waterproof -- we're not submerging it! But, I'd like it to keep books dry if he sets it down in the snow while waiting for the bus.

I see some at camping goods stores online -- but for a hundred and up.

I'd love any suggestions!

Thanks!

I think that LLBEAN & Lands Ends bags repells water pretty good, not sure if totally waterproff.

Just buy whatever backpack you like then spray it with a can of waterproofing spray.

DS has been carrying a High Sierra Access for two years now, he's going into his third year with it, and it is still in great condition. It has a pull-out rain fly that covers the entire pack when needed. Here's someone's blog review that shows it: http://www.nationaloutdoors.net/gearreview/high-sierra-access-backpack-review

We bought it for $50 at Penney's with one of their $15 off coupons.

It *is* a rather large pack, so it can be a bit big for a kid, but DS chose it back when he was a foot shorter than he is now (he's 13 and 5'8").
