I'm flying Delta in May to Disney and watned to know if I could use the large duffel as a carry-on bag. I know it says its a carry on bag but I want to make sure.

DELTA REQUIREMENTS: 22 X 14 X 9

Large Dufffe: 22 X 11 1/2 X 11 1/2

I ordered 2 Large Duffels yesterday from Vera Bradley but am thinking I might have to send them back because they won't fit in the overhead. What should I do?

Well- they are soft- so if you can squish it in- and not stuff to the gills I think you'll be ok. It just has to FIT into the bin and the good thing about the vera ones is they squish up. I have not personally used one though on a plane so I can't swear it's true-

I use mine as a carryon every flight I take. I've never had a problem with it "squishing" to fit in the overhead. No worries!

 Seriously?? Have you flown Delta with them?

I did, but it was international, so bigger plane. BUT, I just flew US Air two weeks ago with it and they state the same dimensions. Length and wide should be fine, the squishing, if any, would be on the height. That said, I had no problems. :goodvibes

You rock!!! Thank you. Just curious, do you find the bag cumbersome to carry around the airport? Also, what do you think of two large duffels side by side in the same overhead cabin?

have them tag it, they will stow it for you in an separate area on the plane.

Personally... i travel delta all the time. Those bins are small.. And hate it when people put huge bags in the bins. Leaves no room for the next person sitting beside you. Or you have to put your stuff 10 seats down, cause of big bags..:mad::mad::mad::mad:

they wont let you have 2 bags in the over head

Well the 2nd bag that I'm refering to would be my daughter's bag who will be sitting next to me. So my 2nd bag is totally legit. I know they would never let 1 person stowe two bags.

The total linear size of the bag (22x14x9) is 45 inches, which is the true limit. They give the 22x14x9 guideline because that is the shape of most luggage. Your bags are also 45 inches total, so they should be fine. :goodvibes

We always maximize the 45 inches that we are each allowed to carry-on and we've never had a problem stowing it properly in the bin. Actually, your bags would likely fit under the seat, which we have found to be a much better place to store them, if you need to get to them during the flight. If they're in the overhead bin and the seat belt light is on, you're stuck, but if they're under the seat, you can get it. . :thumbsup2 (if there's nothing in there you need during flight, then of course it doesn't matter, but my kids are always needing SOMETHING from the bag - snacks, drinks, book, etc. And yes, you can bring empty bottles and fill them after you pass security or you can buy drinks if you like. I never get on a plane without drinks for my kids).

As compared to a rolling carry-on, it may be a bit more cumbersome because its a shoulder bag. It does make a great pillow while waiting in the airport though!

And as mickilee pointed out, they will tag it if you wish, or if it doesnt fit. It is more narrow then a normal rolling carry-on, which I think works better in the smaller overheads.

My other favorite travel bag is the large tote (fits perfect under the seats). Love, love, love!! That comes with me EVERWHERE!!! Its so easy roll up and pack in case I need another bag too.

Thanks Laurie:

Poohgirl: can you confirm what Laruie says about the duffel fitting under the seat?

The other Vera bag I was thinking of using is the new "Get Carried Away" that one is 41.5 linear inches but its a tote and not a duffel. I reall want to use the duffel though b/c of the space.

THAT'S the tote!

I honestly have never had to place it under the seat. I will usually pack clothes etc in the duffle and then use the tote as my "personal item" and that goes under the seat. I pack things I may need to access in the tote.

I have also flown with my Vera Bradley duffel bags and I know in the overhead it hasn't been a problem. I didn't find mine cumbersome to carry around but I guess it would depend how heavy it is and what you put in it. Mine is usually used for clothes and when I'm on short trips. :goodvibes

You have GET CARRIED AWAY??:love: Do you think I can use that instead of the duffel? Its so pretty.

I have 3! One is an older version that I use as my work/laptop bag.

The duffle is perfect for clothes, the tote seems much smaller because of the shape, not as good for clothes. The tote is perfect for my travel docs, laptop, snacks, ipod, kids travel toys etc. I does hold a bit. Because I hate paying for more checked bags, I just check one, use the duffle AND the tote. So I guess it depends on what you plan to pack in the carry-ons.

FYI if you also have a rolling check bag, the duffle will fit perfect on top and wrap the duffle strap (or tote strap) over and around the luggage pull handle and your all set to go!

Thanks for all the advice Poohgirl! (and everyone else too). You've been very helpful! I let you know how it all works out. :)

So I was following this thread earlier... never looked at a Vera Bradley bag in my life, but now you guys have me obsessing about them today!

So if I am understanding right, the large duffel will stowe in the overhead on a Delta plane, and the Get Carried Away tote will fit under the seat?

If I have both, will they definitely allow both as carry-ons? The get carried away tote would be considered my "purse", right?

I am going to Phoenix for 5 days in April, and I'm planning to do only carry-ons, so I'm trying to find luggage with the maximum amount of space, but not so big that they will make me check it. :thumbsup2

My mom took her large Vera duffel (and I got a small one :thumbsup2) and she didn't have a problem with it fitting in the overhead!
