Need a top 10 (or so) list of things to do at OKW

Please help--

I'm trying to write a list of 10 or so things that one can do at OKW to include in a newsletter for my family. We're taking down my family, with the age rage of 68 (Pap Pap) to 2 (youngest nephew). Kids (8 of them) range from 2 through 15.

Here's what I have so far:

Boat ride to DTD
Cool main pool
Rent those bike things (not sure of name) around the OKW grounds

Hard to believe that's all I can think of, I know.

Anyway, any help that you may be able to give will be greatly appreciated!

Don't forget the Community Hall for the kids.

And Gurgling Staircase for the not-so-young kids.

In addition, for the more enegetic, I'd add that there is:

Fitness Center
Volleyball
Shuffleboard
Basketball
Tennis
Golf...of course!
Landscaping tours
Fishing cruises

I'll bet there's more but that's all I can think of.

We were there over 4th of July last year and every day was filled with activities (most for a nominal fee but not everything) in the Community Hall. You can also rent DVD's, free for members, or board games, also free. Maybe you don't want to do these kind of things that you can do at home but it always seems to be more fun for the kids to do them on vacation and it is something you can add to your list.

Also, we LOVE to do the Hidden Mickey thing. You can make a list of Hidden Mickeys at OKW and even add in DTD for those taking the boat trip. My mom loves to find the squished penny machines. You can see how many different squished pennies the kids can find and then compare at the end of the trip.

There is also a fitness center for those who feel they haven't gotten enough exercise in the parks for the day!

Another vote for the community hall . You could also travel via. connecting boats via. DTD and pool-hop at SSR and POR.

Tennis, if you like. You can borrow a racket from COmmunity hall, with your ID.

Also shuffleboard.

THe great steam room in the lighthouse.

Gurgling suitcase drink, and to the big hot tub.

Little ones love the sand pit. Bring sand toys from home.

Swim Googles for the pool slide.

Watching the golfers tee off from your balcony.

Feeding ducks from your balcony (bring a loaf of bread).

Fishing excursion (for kids. Daughter caught 2 fish - catch and release).

Tie die T-shirts (really cool) - community hall.

This is all stuff we've done over the years that we've enjoyed.

Oh, and if your ever there for Easter, have a fabulous candy toss.

Also, do the tie-dyeing and fishing activities happen on a regular basis? And, do you know what the additional cost usually is? I thinkd that my kids will really enjoy these!

THe Easter thingy is around 10 a.m. at the main pool, by the tennis courts. THey have an earlier section for 4-6ish Year olds, and then the others afterwards. THere was so much candy, you just scooped it up. Bring a easter bastket, and a camera, and don't be late (show up 1/2 hour early). It starts on time, and I missed it by 5 minutes..... You can find out when it is on the check-in sheet of activities.

Tie-dyeing usually happens once a week. Check in the activities sheet upon check-in, and sign up early. I think DVCers get a small break in price, and this and the un-birthday party fill up fast.

The catch and release was maybe twice a week, also on the activities sheet, and was around $30 for 2 hours. Tons of fun. Parents not allowed, only kids, so send them with a disposable camera so they can take pictures of their catch. (and make concurrent reservations at Olivia's for a little breakfasts sans kids for you and your hubby).

Do you know if there is an official list of Hidden Mickeys of OKW like there is at the WL?

Just wanted to add that my kids were able to participate in some pool games too. There was a cannonball contest when we were there that was great! Another thing that I like to do with the older kids is swim in the nearest "quiet pool" later in the evening.

Absolutely do not forget to get a drink and sit on the dock outside the gurrgling suitcase at sunset as the wharf area lights up...its gorgeous!!

Ah, yes-I love to do this several times a trip. Specifically with a Sultry Seahorse (I don't remember what's in it, but it's goo-od!). Then at 9:00, we stroll over to the bridge to watch the Epcot Fireworks.

"FW" - do you mean Fort Wilderness? is so, there is no place to see that from OKW....oh...perhaps you mean fireworks??? if so, there are no spectacular views (except perhaps for the highest of shots) visable from OKW.

Do you mean the Epcot Fireworks I just mentioned? If so, you can see them from the bridge that goes across the golf course and marina(granted not well, but well enough-especially when you've got a Sultry Seahorse in hand!). The one that as you go over it, the fountain is on the right in the middle of the pond and the little marina with the boats is on the left.

The fireworks from Epcot are also visible from some of the villas as well if you happen to be on the top floors.

The walkway to DTD is fun to do once in awhile, but do it in the daylight...it's not lighted.

The landscaping tour is fun too. Sign up for it at the front desk.

We like the quiet pool hot tubs best, but the steam room in the lighthouse is great!

During the year of a million dreams, the OKW mousekeeping staff does a "parade" once during each week. The time seems to float, but if you are out and about when they arrive, it is great fun! They dress their vehicles up in "key West" decor and play calypso music and wear panama hats etc, and put their dusters on the support posts of their "floats". They wave and shout to anyone out and about....great fun!

"Rent" a free movie at Hanks rent and return, or let the kids participate in the games most afternoons near there or the pool. The sand play area will be fun for the littlest folks, and there is a fitness center near the main pool.

Don't forget just sitting on your huge balcony and enjoying the view of either the water way or golfers! That is one of our favorite early morning and late night activities! Golfers and sunrise in the mornings, and sunsets and boats in the evening.

I tried to keep it to ten, but had no luck.

1. Relax and/or enjoy a meal on your porch- unlike the other DVC resorts, you can actually fit a whole family on it and there is a dining table and chairs on it.
2. Swim at the main pool (which features a sandcastle water slide) and/or your nearest quiet pool.
3. Get a massage at "Slappy Joe's".
4. Walk to Downtown Disney. It's a lovely walk along the Trumbo Canal and the Sassagoula River, including views of the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course, Saratoga Springs Resort, and glimpses of the old Treehouse Villas.
5. Rent a boat, a bicycle, or a surrey from "Hank's Rent & Return".
6. Borrow a DVD from Hank's and watch it in your full size living room. Unlike the other DVC resorts, you will have plenty of room to spread out.
7. Play shuffleboard/tennis/basketball/volleyball. Hank's has all the equipment you need.
8. Enjoy one or more of the activities at Community Hall. Check "Hank's Happenings" for the schedule.
9. Take a leisurely walk through the "neighborhood".
10. Golf at the Lake Buena Vista course which winds through the resort.
11. Work out in the fitness center.
12. Drop some quarters at the "Electric Eel" arcade (at main pool), or the "Flying Fish" gameroom (at Turtle Shack).
