It looks like anyone wanting to buy now has a timetable to work with of Jan. 20th. I can only guess, but I don't see this being this low in price again. Last year the friends and family was $83.xx and this year it is $86. Most likely it will be a good deal again next year, but still a little more than this deal. I was trying to get some info from Ed. We are looking to purchase soon and have alot of questions. We don't have a referral. We did request some info over the phone. Our brochure is coming. We told the man we did not have a referral. We were thinking of buying the SSR 150 points. It is just the two of us and we have been to Disney 3 out of the last 4 years.

Hi-- we're set to call today to buy into SSR (first time buyers! ). We were offered $10 off per point *or* an extra 150 pts for the 1st year. I see the DVC friends and family promo is $15 off per point... we were interested more in the extra points... does anyone know if there is a corresponding points promotion for folks who have DVC referrals? ( I have to call today, probably by noon, if anyone wants to be my referral!)
Now I have like 4 hours to rethink this!

I am trying to figure out what is the better deal for us-- to have the 150 extra pts to use 1 year or to save the $2250 (or use that to buy 25 extra pts). We have the cash in hand to buy (didn't 5 yrs ago when we started looking), so that isn't a issue. We didn't like that we had already missed almost 10 yrs of the contract. With this deal, we get 2006 pts, plus "get back" the 2005 pts (as if we had banked them) and still have 49 of the 50 yrs.
I may have to call our guide (Jonathan) and ask a few more questions, but we've been thinking and saving for almost 5 yrs, so I think we're ready!
I'll let you know what we decide to do.

P.S. I think I would take the extra 150 points. You wouldn't believe how fast you can blow through the points. It's like some weird addiction! LOL

It's a hard decision - one we just went thru ourselves . We actually just made our decision to buy this past Sat. (our paperwork should arrive today). The way we looked at being able to use the xtra from our friends referral was that we could buy 250 pts. for less than what we would have paid at the regular $101 price for 230 pts. (still ahead by $1,730) after the savings. So basically we decided to split that savings between a combination of buying more pts. than we might have w/o any incentive and kept the rest in our pockets. It also worked out to be the same amt. of savings if you calculated 250 pts. @ $10 off VS 230 pts. @ $10 off ($1,720). It just felt like a wash to us so we chose to use the xtra $5 to buy a few more pts. I have no doubt that we'll find a way to use them over the years - and we were afraid of not buying ENOUGH pts. if we only bought 230...

Unfortuantely, Jonathan is out of the office until Friday, so I won't have a verdict until then. We're trying for either the 150 1 time extra points or using the referral to afford 25 more pts (175 total). Whatever will get us Dec (06) use year! If you're anything like us, you're certain to spend those "extra" 150 points sooner, rather than later.
But, if you bought the extra 25 points, you'd break even points-wise in 6 years and still have 42 more years with an "extra" 25 points.
