Thanks, that's what I suspected (which s@#cks). Would posting all the states on the board be against DIS rules somehow? Also, does anyone know what the rationale is for some states to disallow referral bonuses (is it just part of regulating timeshare marketing?) I suspect Dean may have some insight here.....

If you are a member you can go to the dvc member website and go to refer a friend. From there I think you go to terms and conditions. It talks about the states there and such.

So if anyone is thinking of buying in, now's the time!

I just got off the phone with my guide and YES 1/20 is the end date of the member incentive referral for SSR.

ALSO... I would suggest...should there be anyone on the fence, you still have plenty of time to make a decision concerning SSR or possibly AKV.

Wait till after Jan 1st...buy SSR..by then the supposedly AKV prices and pt. values will be out...and "until you close on SSR, usually 3 weeks"..you will be able to "CHANGE" your purchase to the AKV if you find that the AKV $$ is suitable for your family. This way you will be "IN" the system for the discounted member SSR referral incentive and not loose it if AKV isn't for you.

BTW....MS will close @ noon on 12/6 for a special meeting and CM rumors have it that possibly the AKV info will be announced.

We have pretty much decided we want to buy at SSR & have been debating the number of pts. before going ahead. The current incentive on the website and corresponding info. we received this week from DVC is only for a 10 pt. discount! Our guide didn't bother mentioning that if we knew a DVC member we could get 15 pts off! And the thing is we DO know some DVC members and we have a friend who's a castmember! Guess we haven't been asking the right ppl the right questions! I am SO-O glad I checked this out a little more B4 buying! Another 5 pts. off would help the decision on how many to buy that's for sure!

So what exactly is the deal? We need to ask our friends to refer us to DVC? Then DVC contacts us in return and forget our guide that we've been talking to?

We considered buying SSR several yrs. ago when it was still pre-construction $ - boy do we wish we'd done it then!

We love Disney but also love going to other destinations too - but it's hard to split it all up - that's one of the things that we thought would be good about it for us. (Have u priced hotels on Maui lately?!) We thought this would be the best of both worlds if we can manage to buy the right # of pts. & learn how to bank & borrow them just right. Had hoped there would be better deals on the cruises tho. We did our 1st on the Magic in summer '05 & LOVED it. Have to figure out a way to go again! Does anybody out there use the other destinations or do you all just go to WDW 2 or 3 times a yr? Curious how using the World Passport has worked out for you...

My understanding is that there is no need to change salespeople. You can simply call your current guide and say "hey, my friend ____ is a DVC member and he/she said you were running a special promotion."

I don't think that you've been mislead by your salesperson. While I'm sure some Guides are guilty of giving potential clients and wink and a nudge, my understanding is that the special pricing is only supposed to be offered if the prospective customer mentions the deal and provides the name of an existing member. DVC did a mass-mailing to all members about 6 weeks ago that described the deal and even gave us materials to use to help spread the word. Sounds like you need to ask your friends why they didn't mention it to you.

Just call your Guide with the name of one of your friends and you should get the additional $5 off. The deal is reportedly ending on January 20th, so don't wait too long. You may even be positioning your friend to receive a small bonus if you end up buying.

OK - called our guide this AM - just as it was suggested by TJKRAZ - they're not allowed to bring up the offer first. The prospective buyer needs to initiate the conversation about it and have the name and / or phone # of the DVC member so they can verify it.

I think we've reached our decision now on the # of pts. to buy in for (in 2 lots should circumstances change later down the road). For 1 referral, our friend is eligible (we're in MD) to get a bonus of about a $200 credit toward his next dues or in Disney Dollars or something.

BTW, for anyone else still sitting on the fence - one advantage our guide did say in respect to buying now VS waiting until Jan. is that by buying in Dec. they still have some 2006 pts. left to sell so we'll get a Dec. date and the 2006 pts. for only 1 mo. of dues! We'll be official members soon!
