OK my sister, and I will leave it at that, lost my Mother's 40 year old recipe for Spritz from her Mirro Cookie Press box. Does anyone have it? I have tried on line and can't find it, I have the Betty Crocker one but she says it is different??? Thanks all... :goodvibes

Here is the one I use.

1/2 C Butter (softened)
1/4 C Shortening
3/4 granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp. vanilla
2 C flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

Cream butter and shortening, then add sugar gradually til light and fluffy. Then add egg and vanilla. Mix well using medium speed. Combine dry ingredients separately, then add gradually to butter mixture.

Then add dough to cookie press.

Bake at 375 for 7 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges.

Your question inspired me to dig out my old "Mirro Cooky-Pastry Press" from the back corner of one of my lower kitchen cabinets. Here are two recipes directly from the Mirro recipe booklet. I've used both recipes but prefer the second one (the "Christmas Trees" recipe) because I prefer the slight almond flavor of that recipe. It calls for tinting the dough green but I never liked the look of slightly browned, pale green cookies! Plus, I make candy cane shapes and other non-tree-shaped cookies using that one batch of dough.

Hope this helps!

Quick-Mix Spritz
2-1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder

1 cup butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

1. Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder together in a bowl.

2. With a pastry blender or two knives cut the butter into the dry ingredients until mixture is full of very fine lumps. It will resemble pie crust or biscuit mix, although not as coarse.

3. Measure egg in a measuring cup. A large egg will measure 1/4 cup. If it does not, add water to the 1/4 cup line.

4. Add the egg and vanilla and beat the mixture very well.

5. Fill cookie press. Form cookies on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

6. Remove at once to cooling racks.

Yield: 5-6 dozen.

Christmas Trees
1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. almond extract
1/4 tsp. salt

2-1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
Green food coloring (optional)

1. Cream butter and sugar well. Beat in egg and almond extract.

2. Gradually blend in dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Tint dough with a few drops of green food coloring if desired. Mix well.

3. Fill cookie press. Form cookies on ungreased cookie sheets, using tree plate No. 21.

4. Decorate with tiny candies. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees.

5. Remove at once to cooling racks.

Yield: 5-6 dozen

Thank-you all, my mom thanks you also. We made three different recipes and she found the one she has always used! I am happy, she is happy, and my kids are loving all of the cookies! :rotfl: I am going to have to see if I can pick up another press for her on ebay so that she can get the recipe book...my lovely sister threw it away!

I had just been thinking about baking some cookies and couldn't decide what to make this year. Now you've got me craving spritzes! Given that I have my cookie press already dug out of that corner cabinet, I guess I know what I'll be doing next week!

Happy cookie baking, everyone!
