I am new to DVC and going on our first trip home in just about a month. We will be returning in December and then likely twice yearly after that.

I am interested in an OL and really like the idea of not having to drag certain stuff back and forth. How does it all work?

Do I contact them before I arrive to join and they will have an empty locker when I get to the hotel? Or will it get to the resort just before I am leaving so I have to pack last minute? When I am leaving the resort, do they pick it up from your room or does it need to go to bell services?

The next time I return, how far in advance do you send your request? Are the fees/dues paid annually, monthly or at the time of the visit?

Are there any DVC or Dis member discounts?

Anything else "procedurally" that I need to know?

TIA!

Hello! I am a newbie also and we will be staying for our first trip about a week before your stay. After doing some research, we decided that the OL was for us. Hopefully our experience so far will be of some help.

We purchased our locker around the first/second week of December. My credit card was charged exactly one month before my day is scheduled to begin. When you register for your locker, there is an option to schedule a stay on your account page. That way the locker is at your resort on the day that you arrive. I am not sure exactly how far in advance that you need to schedule your stay. Their website just says to notify them as soon as possible. I believe that they pick up the locker at Bell Services, but I am not totally certain on that point.

There is a one time fee of $75 to purchase your locker. You are allowed one pick/up delivery per year. After that, it is $75 for each additional time. They offer a discount to DIS members for a reduced fee of $45 and an extra delivery/pick up per year at no charge for 3 years, which would be a savings $270 total including the reduced fee.

There are excellent lists both on the OL website and threads on this board. We decided to collect the items that we plan to put in our OL. We plan to mail the package to ourselves at the resort so that we will not have to carry everything. I would be happy to share my list if you are interested. The bin is approximately the same size as one of the bins that we keep Christmas decorations in, so it has helped to determine how much will fit in there. It is actually remarkable how much I have been able to collect and the locker still will not be full.

Hope this helps!

This is very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to provide so much info!

How do you get the DIS discount? Does it ask for that on their website?

I have a growing list and have been copying all the great lists I've seen posted. I would love to see yours as well :) :)

I know I will most definately store an extra bathrobe in the OL! That is one must have item for me that takes up LOTS of room in the suitcase. Between that and all the various shampoos we all must have, I am happy just with not lugging those!

I found the answer to my question about the DIS discount from the link posted by the PP. Thanks again. Glad to hear such positive comments about the company.

Okay, not to be a dope, but I do have one more question.

On the OL website, it lists the Membership fee as including the locker, the initial visit and the initial return of the locker.

So technically, my trip in January will be "free" (technically already paid for, but it sounds better that way....) and when I return in Dec 2009 it won't cost me anything additional, correct?

That is correct. The clock on your "year" starts ticking when your locker is returned the first time.

Thanks again! I just purchased my membership :cool1: :cool1:

Somehow the idea of my stuff"\ staying down at my new "home" just gives me a warm cozy feeling!!

Welcome aboard, DznyDreamz, and thanks for your help gang...you answer questions better than I do!!...off to make the last deliveries for today!
Happy New Year!
