Hi all, I have rented points the first week of June at kidani. We have a studio and I am wondering if perhaps I should try and change it to a one bedroom. It is 4 of us, so 2 will be on the couch. Is the price difference worth the extra room? Thanks for all advice

It really depends on a bunch of stuff.

How much time will you be spending in the room?

Do the people sharing the couch mind sharing?

Do you like a kitchen? A W/D?

Would having another bathroom be pretty fabulous?

Is the cost difference something you would need to make up elsewhere in your vacation or in your life in ways that you would regret?

Is your rental final? You may not be able to change it to a 1BR depending on who you rented from, points available, UY etc. Most rental transactions are final.

I find that the studios are great for two people, slightly cramped with 3 people and not something that I would want to do for a week with 4 people. Some people are fine with cramped quarters if they are saving money. I would be miserable. And if I'm miserable, everyone around me is going to be miserable. And for that reason, I would spend the points to stay in a 1-bedroom.

But, and this is a HUGE BUT, you're a renter and not an owner. Renting points is not the same as making a reservation with Disney and then changing your mind. Most of the time, there's no changing your mind with DVC rentals. Is the owner willing to cancel your reservation and make a new one? Do they have the additional points needed to book the 1-bedroom villa? Is a 1-bedroom even available? (Okay, it's Kidani and you're just inside the 7-month window. Chances are pretty good that a 1-bedroom is available.) It becomes even less likely if you rented through one of the brokers. While an individual owner might be willing and able to accommodate you, the broker is dealing with a large number of owners and renters. The contract that the brokers use with you and the owner pretty much states that there can be no changes once the reservation has been confirmed.

Is it worth it? Yes

The studios are about 360 sq ft with one, small bathroom. It has a mini kitchen area with a small frig, microwave, sink and coffee maker. It comes with paper plates and plastic utensils. Four in a studio is possible and common but not a situation of true comfort.

The Kidani 1BR is huge, about 810 sq ft.. The master bedroom with a king connects to a large master bath that has a shower separate from the large, jacuzzi tub. The iiving room has a pull-out queen couch, and a large twin sized pull-out sleeper chair, There is a full kitchen area with dishwasher, large frig, stove, coffee maker, microwave, sink, real dishes and utensils. There is a second full bathroom with combined tub and shower between the kitchen and front door area. There is also a washer/dryer, two TVs (bedroom and living room) You also get one, long balcony that runs the length of the bedroom and living room.

If you want room comfort and the amenities of being at home do the 1BR. If the four guests don't mind being cramped together and just want a room to try to sleep in and no one snores loudly, do the studio.

I agree, it depends. The benefit of the 1 BR at Kidani also adds the second bath which can be huge with some groups getting ready. The extra space and kitchen is very nice. I'd say it's worth it for many situations for 4.
