I am attending a military graduation pool party/bbq this Saturday and everyone is bringing a dish to pass. They will be cooking hot dogs, burgers, brats, etc. on the grill. I am not much of a cook to begin with so I am looking for some quick and easy receipe ideas. Can anyone suggest something please, please, please?:confused:

I love this one - I add extra olives cause I love olives:
Orzo with Everything

Ingredients

* 1 1/2 cups orzo (rice-shaped pasta; about 10 ounces)
* 1/3 cup (packed) chopped drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes
* 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
* 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
* 1/4 cup (packed) chopped Kalamata olives or other brine-cured black olives
* 1 cup finely chopped radicchio (about 1 small head)
* 1/2 cup pine nuts, toasted
* 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
* 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
* 2 large garlic cloves, minced

Cook orzo in pot of boiling salted water until just tender but still firm to bite. Drain well. Transfer to large bowl. Add sun-dried tomatoes, oil, vinegar and olives and toss to blend. Let stand until cool. (Can be prepared 6 hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Bring to room temperature before continuing.)

Mix chopped radicchio, pine nuts, chopped basil, Parmesan and garlic into orzo mixture. Season salad to taste with salt and pepper and serve.

SWEET BAKED BEANS

2 (28 oz.) cans Campbell's Baked Beans
1 c. dark brown sugar
1/2 c. ketchup
1 tbsp. yellow mustard
1 med. to lg. onion (chopped)
Bacon (optional)

Mix brown sugar, ketchup and mustard until smooth. Should be like a thick gravy consistency. Add onions to beans, sugar mixture and mix well.

Pour into greased 13x9 pan. Top with 3 strips uncooked bacon cut in half. Cover and bake at 325 degrees about 1 1/2 hours. Uncover for last 20 minutes.

You can make any changes like adding more beans. It's very easy.

Enjoy.

Bring some ground turkey to make turkey burgers. Just press in some ground oregano and put them on the grill. Buy it lean.

For anyone on Weight Watchers these are high protein and low fat, low calorie. They taste great and the oregano also smells great.

What about bringing a fruit salad? Just buy a few basic fruits - whatever is on sale will usually work, chop and you're done. Not the cheapest, but pretty easy. You could also do a veggie tray - normally carrotts and celery with dip is plenty. You could just buy a pre chopped bag of each and a thing of dip and put them out on a plate. A cheese and cracker tray always works too. And my last really simple idea - cookies or brownies - bake them or buy them. I'm guessing there will be cake if its a grad party, but extra desserts are rarely a problem!

I go the easy route and buy the 4 lb. fruit salad bowl from Costco. :laughing:

I second the idea for pasta salad of some kind. Any kind of pasta salad tends to be popular at our work events.

One thing I love to do is get pre-made pesto, usually found in the pasta/sauces area. I cook up a box of rotini, mix it with the pesto and toss in halved cherry tomatoes and some cubed mozarella. Very easy going and flavorful.

Another option would be something like the easy Greek pasta salad posted on this site.

Lastly, you could also get one of those boxes of "Suddenly Salad" that is basically pasta salad in a box that requires a little mixing and cooking. You could even dress it up if you want.

Another idea is a 5 bean salad, light refreshing, easy to make. You can change up the ingredients to your liking. Here's a basic recipe.
5 Bean Salad
• 15 ounces butter beans
• 15 ounces kidney beans
• 15 ounces garbanzo beans
• 16 ounces green beans
• 16 ounces wax beans
• 1 small red onion, diced
• 1 green bell pepper, chopped
Dressing
• 1/4 cup water
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
• 1/4 cup oil
• 1 teaspoon oregano
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
Directions:
1. Rinse and drain beans in a colander. Transfer to a large bowl with lid.
2. Stir onion and bell pepper into beans.
3. Dissolve sugar in water for 1 minute in microwave safe measuring cup.
4. Whisk in remaining ingredients until combined.
5. Pour over beans and toss to coat evenly.
6. Allow to marinate 4 or more hours.

I put this in the wrong section and don't know how to move it. Can anyone help me please????

I'll move it to the cooking forum for you.

BTW, the #1 crowd pleaser I have found is buffalo chicken dip. Google it. You will thank me. :)
