Hi,

My family and I are coming out of North Western New Jersey for a road trip to Disney. The last few times my wife and I flew down but now we have our daughter and a travel trailer.

Now I was thinking about coming down I95. Unfortunately, Baltimore and Washington DC are going to be in the way. Charlotte maybe iffy if I'm near it durings either rush hour via the 81/77/26/95 Yes I have seen the 81,77,26,95,4 route. I am trying to find out if there is a route that will be kinder to my truck and nicer to the fuel tank. I don't like long runs of high RPMs which means the fuel tank drains a bit quicker.

So are these really the only two routes out of the NE? Just want to get the opinion of the RVers of the group.

One last note, my daughter wants this emoicon :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I don't have an answer but you may want to post your question on the camping forum as well. Lots of rv folk there.

FYI, you cannot take campers through the 95 tunnel in Baltimore - so you have to go around no matter the time/traffic (we take 695 W towards Towson when we go 95).

We are in the Lehigh Valley (just north of Easton), so depending on where you are in NJ you can try following the route that we are taking (this Thursday!!!!) We're heading west on 78, south on 81/83 to 15 south to 270 to 495 to 95. That puts you on 95 on the south of DC, leaving only Richmond on the way.

We don't go the 81/77 route to stay on flatter (i.e. better on fuel) route.

We travel from Long Island and take 95. Just remeber you can not travel through through the harbor tunnel in baltimore with propane on board. We take 695 to the scott key bridge. Try to time it so you are not going through dc during rush hour.

Yes the tunnels in Baltimore never change. My parents use to go to Myrtle Beach, SC with their motor home. That trip was about 13.5 hours for them. They would drive us around Baltimore. Washington, is more of the head scratcher. Even though our drive will be taking place on the weekend, Washington has always had a never disappoint traffic jam no matter what time of day or night.

Most people who tow prefer flatter runs. It is easier on the tow vehicle which is no slouch. Also I want to make sure the route is fairly easy to navigate. My parents are coming with us but in a separate vehicle. They are going to rent a trailer at FW.

For the direction I am coming from, Sussex County, New Jersey. It is about an hour northeast of Allentown Bethlehem, PA area.

Neither here nor there, my wife and I have a little over 8 months to plan. We are going in October. She placed our reservation for the campsites this morning.

Thank you for the information so far. I thought of posting in the camping forum but the transportation seemed to be a better choice. Our trip is about 2280 miles round trip. We are provisioning two overnight stops. One down and one up plus all the regular stops for fuel, food and stretching. I am really looking forward to our trip.
