Another BIG vote for the Shopaholic book series!!!!!

First author that came to mind for light, funny reading. Nick Hornsby is great, too (wrote book into movie About a Boy)

Love Diana Gabaldon reading Breath of Snow and Ashes now. Some in the series are better than others, but very intense reading.

Thanks to the person who recommended Mary Kay Andrews - I just started Savannah Blues - it sounds somewhat familiar to me since my parents were antiques "pickers" for many years (but not in Georgia).

My favorite author of late is Jennifer Weiner. I'm reading Little Earthquakes right now & love it. I've read In Her Shoes (awesome!) and Good In Bed (also awesome!). She's a very easy read, with some romance, tension, etc.

I bought Good In Bed two days ago. I couldn't put it down. I'm now starting on Savannah Blues. Then comes Water for Elephants. Has anyone read Water for Elephants yet? What did you think?

The author of "The Devil Wears Prada" also wrote "Everyone Worth Knowing".

Then there's "The Starter Wife".

Another 'light' (for the most part) detective series I like are the Carlotta Carlyle books by Linda Barnes.

If you like cats, there's Lillian Braun's "The Cat Who..." series - very easy/breezy reading.

Has anyone read Water for Elephants yet? What did you think?

I loved it! It's not a book I would normally read, but am very glad I did. I even told my husband he needs to read it!

I love to read, I live in a small town, and I swear that I have read everything in our public library. It's fun to get some new ideas of what to read. I've written down all the authors I haven't read and I'm going to go searching for some new books. Don't you just love knowing that you have a good book to read? A good book is the best reward I know of.

Oh, I love her books!

These are great, I loved her books! For the dog lovers there are mysteries by Lauren Berenson about dogs shows and easy mysteries nothing intense, they're great! There is a series about a maid too named Charlotte LaRue set in LA, I forget the author on that.

Has anyone read Water for Elephants yet? What did you think?

I just read this book. I thought it was good. Some of it reminded me of the TV show Carnivale. Similar subject and timeframe.

There are 2 stories. One in real time when the narrator is old, and the flashback story that the narrator tells us.

I liked how the "flashback" story ended, but I thought that the "real time" story ending was a bit out there.

I would still recommend this book.

DH and I going on a long relaxing weekend getaway. I never get to read. So, I want to read. I am looking for suggestions for a PAPERback book, don't want to spend lots of $ on a book. I am looking for a light hearted fiction book. I went to Barnes & Nobles tonight and didn't buy anything.

Here my thoughts....I picked up The Devil Wears Prada....I was thinking I didn't know that was a book, but I would have read it if I hadn't seen the movie. I also picked up something about Always a Bridesmaid....made me think of 27 Dresses which I have seen.

I don't want a total Romance or Suspense. I would like a bit of romance, comedy and a feel good, tell it like it is book, easy reading.

Any suggestions??? Again, I only want to buy a Paperback.

And, no I am not going to the library....I have a germ phobia there...Long story!! LOL!!

I am three-quarters done with "The Time Traveler's Wife." Maybe this is what you are looking for?

It was $8 in paperback at Costco. It is built around a romantic story, but the husband is a time-traveler who cannot control when or where he goes.

I am just LOVING this story and I love the small challenge it gives your mind in sorting out the time and the when and the where, yete is it not confusing enough to be considered a too-deep novel.

Alot of people really enjoy Nora Roberts - the 3 sister trilogy (about modern 'witches tho),

She also writes as J D Robb, mysteries -- but I haven't started that series yet (cant find the first one!)

The J D Robb books take place in the future. I haven't decided if I would like them or not. I love Nora Roberts though.

I absolutely love the J.D. Robb, "In Death" series of mysteries. But they are not a lightweight read. They are more hardcore mysteries & can be quite gruesome. Don't pick one of these up expecting a regular "Nora Roberts" book. The change in genre & gore is one of the reasons for the pseudonym, as well as being a 29 book series (currently.)

But true to the absolute genius of Nora, which is richly complex relationships, the relationship of Eve & Roarke is her best writing. As this is a series, the tight ensemble of characters grow & become more complex with each new novel. You can tell she really thinks about writing this series, and doesn't simply churn them out the way she does her other books. (She does put out 2 a year in this series, tho. )

The series doesn't really take off till book six. But read them in order as the characters, situations & relationships evolve. I'm up to book 24 (out of 29) and the later books are her best writing.


I tried to read Sue Grafton's first book, after reading several of the J.D. Robb, but found the writing really dry and awkward & couldn't finish it. To be fair, I didn't give her till Book 6 to improve. DOES she improve in later books? Someone had once said to just start from book "G".


BTW, I liked Nora Roberts: 3 sisters trilogy. It was light reading.
