Need a book to read.......

I will recommend the books by Jasper Fforde. They are all very creative. I am into the Thursday Next series which starts with the Eyre Affair.

Oh my gosh-- I love Jasper Fforde! Absolututely adore him! He is the master of meta-fiction and satire. Genius!

I also like the Stephanie Plum books.

And as a librarian, I would like to nicely ask those of you with overdue books to please bring them back! Really, we're much more concerned with having the item back than collecting overdue fees... (In fact, I dislike the idea behind overdue fees but that is a discussion interesting to only librarians!)Please just bring the books back! :)

I love Sue Grafton also. After you read several she becomes and old friend. You get to know her and the other characters so well.

This series is a light hearted mystery - but not graphic gory - the main character is a woman, and since the series is up to "T" you can get 3 books together at Barnes and Noble I believe (ie A is for alibi, B is for Burgler, and C is for... )

I believe while you are on vacation, the fun light hearted books are a quicker read - at least for me!! I enjoy the Regency era Romance genre - it helps pass the time, without engaging my mind!! but I can read them fast!

another fun light read mystery is Diane Mott Davidson series - her books main character is Goldy, and she's a caterer - so they include recipes!! At the beginning of the series she's divorced, but as the series progresses, she gets married...Catering to Nobody, Dying for Chocolate, Cereal Murders are the first 3 in this 14 book series...

Alot of people really enjoy Nora Roberts - and I do, but I like her series that appeal to me - 3 Fates I thought was a good read.. I like her Irish Trilogy, her "Born in" trilogy,(set in Ireland I believe) the 3 sister trilogy (about modern 'witches tho), I'm curious about the new series she has started with Blood Brothers, it looks to be interesting! She also writes as J D Robb, mysteries -- but I havent started that series yet (cant find the first one!)

Ok - this is going to be a little less light-hearted than books you've mentioned, but I L-O-V-E Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series!!! It's part history, part romance, part comedy, part "real"... Its hard to describe, but it is incredibly well written and an easy read.

I am re-reading this series now. Did you know that there is a message board devoted to Diana Gabaldon and her books? www.lallybroch.com Her books are great! The details in the historical aspects and the details in the characters are amazing.

OP, if you live near a Goodwill, that's a great place to pick up a variety of fiction paperbacks for a cheap price. When I travel, I usually bring a book I bought at Goodwill with me. If I lose it, it's no great loss. If I finish it, sometimes I'll pass it along to another traveler so I don't have to pack it to bring home. At WDW, I'll leave the book in a laundry room with a "free to good home" post it on the book.

Have you ever heard of paperbackswap.com ? You can trade books (not just paperbacks) for the price of postage. Great way to recycle too!

Mary Kay Andrews -- start with Savannah Blues -- it's a very lighthearted mystery with quirky southern characters. (There's a mystery to be solved, but it's not the main plot of the book -- hard to describe, but funny) All her books are set in the south and the characters are quirky. There are a couple of books that feature the main character in savannah blues, but she also has some others that feature different characters and different themes.

DH and I going on a long relaxing weekend getaway. :lovestruc I never get to read. So, I want to read. I am looking for suggestions for a PAPERback book, don't want to spend lots of $ on a book. I am looking for a light hearted fiction book. I went to Barnes & Nobles tonight and didn't buy anything.

Here my thoughts....I picked up The Devil Wears Prada....I was thinking I didn't know that was a book, but I would have read it if I hadn't seen the movie. I also picked up something about Always a Bridesmaid....made me think of 27 Dresses which I have seen.

I don't want a total Romance or Suspense. I would like a bit of romance, comedy and a feel good, tell it like it is book, easy reading.

Any suggestions??? Again, I only want to buy a Paperback.

And, no I am not going to the library....I have a germ phobia there...Long story!! LOL!!

Thanks!:goodvibes

I love books by Jane Green, they are set in the UK. I just can't get enough of her books! Another one is Anna Maxted, same thing. I like to make the british accent in my head while I'm reading....did I really just type that???

Wow! :dance3: Great suggestions! I actually looked at the Shopaholic series, but wasn't sure. :confused3 Ok, if anyone has anymore or would like to 2nd any mentioned, I am going back to the bookstore tomorrow AM. You guys are the best!!!!!:cool1:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! :yay:

I just go through reading Jemima J and Straight Talking both by Jane Green! I LOVED them...and I am really not a reader!

I don't normally read books that are movies but this book was awesome...

PS, I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
I picked up the book around Dec. at Borders for less than 8 bucks. It had a few sad parts but mostly it was just an awesome book. A little Chick Lit but with some good substance. I could not put it down.

I also second the Emily Griffen books...I think you relate best to those if you are young and recently had a baby.

If you enjoy a mystery with a chick lit edge I recommend any Kate White book. I think she has a few in paperback.

Also if you enjoy Danielle Steel I think her book Sisters which was great just came out in paperback

And my last recommendation would be Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner ...I love all of her books!!

I just read Sisters. It was really good but you have to like Danielle Steel's writing style. I haven't read it in such a long time, it kinda bugged me.

I just read through Debbie Macomber's Dakota Born and Dakota Home books. Those were pretty good. I usually read a book every few days ... I need to look into downloanding some books. I bet I would get a TON of work done around here if I could listen to books!!

I love her books too! Anything by Jane Green makes for good vacation reading.

The second book was harder, but the rest I couldn't keep my hands off of them! I actually have two sets - one that I loan out or take with me when I go places (trips, etc.), and the other (hardback) set that I have at home & only read when I know I won't mess it up. :) Am I insane or what?!?

I've got you beat..I have the paperback version, that I lend, the hardback set that is Nice, and I also have each of the Audio Versions. If you haven't listened to Davina Porter read this series, you should. I couldn't believe how well she did, especially with Jamie!

OP, Water for Elephants is very good. I just started listening to it day before yesterday and I've already found myself sitting in the car too long after I've gotten to my destination to hear "just a little bit more" (While I love to sit down with a book and actually read, I rarely have the time so I have dozens of books on my ipod)

I love to read and rarely have the time. I almost always listen to books now and have for several years. I literally have dozens of books on my ipod at the moment (somewhere around 70 books I think) I love Audible.com for about $22 you can get 2 books a month. If that's not enough, you can order books on CD from a place like onthegobooks or booksfree and then rip them to your player. The CDs take longer (obviously) but it's more of a rental like netflix and you send them back when you're done. You can rent up to 4-5 at a time depending on what you want to pay. When you send the book/books back they send out the new ones.

recordedbooks also does rentals, sales

A really light-hearted book that's a fun read is Adriana Trigiani's Rococco. It's about an Italian decorator and his family in New Jersey and it's on my must recommend to everyone list. It's also great on CD.

She is one of my favorite authors! Has anyone else read her Big Stone Gap series? The first book is the best. You fall in love with the series.

Sandy we have the same tastes! :thumbsup2 I love Diane's Goldy series. The earlier books are the best, in any series I think.

The new Blood Brothers series had a good start. Did you ever read Blue Dahlia, Black Rose and Red Lily? My favorite of Nora Roberts.

I like those too but Rococco is still my favorite :) Have you read Queen of the Big time?
