I actually feel odd asking for help since I too have a 7 year old son....but these boys are nothing alike. The party is this weekend and I can't come up with any good ideas. Please help!

The boy doesn't play sports, but he does like playing outside with his little brother. His mother doesn't "approve of" any violence, so no action figures that do any fighting! (Not that I promote violence ~ but I really don't see any harm in Power Rangers and Yugioh) They are only allowed 1 hr of TV each week, so even if I could find a non-violent video ~ I'm sure they wouldn't have time to watch it. And according to the boy ~ he hates school...So he probably wouldn't play with anything educational.

Also ~ I'd prefer to in the $20 range.

:bday: :cake:

Any Ideas?

why not give him gift certificates to the local movie theater? (usually you can find a "package deal" that has 2 tickets plus popcorn/soda for around that price.

board games?
books? (harry potter boxed set is $23 at Target)
does he have a game boy? most of those games are around $20.

What about a Lego set? Or some kind of Hotwheels or Matchbox car set. Iknow you said he might not like something educational, but Target carries National Geograpic "toys" in the toy aisle. They have some cool things....I bought DS 6 a National Geographic 3D space projector thingy. Its a projector and it shows all of the planets on the ceiling. It comes with a CD that tells about each slide and 3D glasses. It was around $20. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

I agree with Lego's, you can't go wrong there, even if he already has the set you buy. K'Nex (I think I spelled that wrong) are another option. Or a board game like Sorry!, Mousetrap, or Operation.

Another idea might be a subscription to a magazine like Ranger Rick or Highlites for Children.

How about a B-B Gun:teeth: . DH has a cousin who would not let her son join boy scouts because they get to shoot some kind of gun, so we always joke about getting him a bb gun for his b'day.

Anyway, I always like to get a gift certificate to the movies, then (if they'll give you one) ask for a small size popcorn bag/box (I use this as the gift bag), I put the gift certificate in the box/bag with some candy.

Another vote for Legos! My son has been getting Legos forever. He's going to be 11 next month and he still wants Legos!

You guys are great!

I think we're going to go with the movie passes or the Legos. I'll have to check with DS to see which he prefers to give.

Thanks again for your help! :wave2:

Target has some great Legos for $2.58!! It was a boxed set of 250 pieces. I bought 10.

Thanks for the tip! :D

I was going to say Legos, too. My DS is seven and plays with them all of the time.

You said he likes to play outside...

I gave two of my kids outdoor toys for Easter: a good frisbee, one of those velcro ball toss games (where there are two "catcher" disks that catch the velcro ball), a rubber ball, etc. They have lots of that kind of stuff fairly cheap in the sporting goods section at WalMart.

My son will be turning eight tomorrow and while we were at Wal-mart yesterday he saw a Shrek operation game and really wants it for his birthday. It is the same as the original operation game except there is Shrek lying there and you take out things like ear wax, and other silly ogre things. Most kids have seen Shrek and loved the movie.

K'Nex is a really great idea, my son really likes his. Recently, DS has been asking for GeoMags, I hear this is another great building system.

You can't go wrong with books and for a 7 year old boy a small box set (4 books) of Magic Tree House books would be great. My son will be 8 soon and he loves these books.

Board games are great, DS likes Monopoly Jr., Uno, Monsters Inc. Life and Thomas the Train Engine to name a few.

How about Rescue Heroes? They are action figures made by Fisher Price and are non violent, non super hero. They are firemen, policemen, paramedics etc. My DS loved these. I still see him playing with them from time to time and he is 11.

More Great Ideas!!!

DS said no on the legos...they already have a ton & don't play with them.

dandave....Love the pocket camera, I'd never thought to give that to kids his age..but I bet they love it.

We're going to make a run to WalMart...we'll check out the Shrek Operation & the cameras. If he's not happy with either of those we can always fall back on movie passes.

Thanks Again guys :D

When my children's classmates have parties (7-9 age range), I've been giving out these little cameras as gifts. With a package of the film they need, it comes to around $17 at Wally World. They all seem to love them. They are very simple to use, even for the young kids.

That really is a super idea. My DS has been so interested in taking pictures, he has been begging to use my digital camera, so this will be a nice alternative. Thanks!

Beyblades, a hover disc ( a great big inflatable balloon type disc he can play with outside ), a plastic rocket set ( you step on an air pump and the rockets fly into the air ). My 6 year old loves the disc and rockets.

frisbees, hula hoops, water toys for summer outside
(slip n slide),art supplies, DK books on anything, dinosaurs of any kind, sets of balls
