The cooling towel did absolutely nothing for me yesterday that an old T-shirt cut into a long scarf strip could have done with the same effect. I'm not exaggerating, as, by the end of the day, my cotton T-shirt was as damp as the towel and felt EXACTLY the same.
First of all, I didn't think it worked much. I dampened, snapped or shook like the directions said. Neither made much of a difference. When I squeezed out almost all of the water, it got warmer
faster.
When I left in some water, the cooling lasted 20 minutes AND I ended up with a drenched T-shirt by the end of the day.
Weather yesterday here was 95 degrees. We were on asphalt the majority of the day. So the heat radiating from the asphalt brought it up to well over 100+ degrees. Humidity was 45%.
The only time the cooling towel was cool was when a fan or air conditioning was on it making it & me cool. Otherwise it really felt like the damp T-shirt I had on that also cooled and heated against my body in the same conditions.
The cooling towel I got was from Target.
I think I'm just going to put a half cup of ice cubes from concessions stands into a Ziplock baggie and just fold that inside the DRY cooling towel to hold in place behind my neck. The ice cubes will last the same 20 minutes and I'll be dry. If I put the rest of the ice cubes in a tall insulated travel cup, I won't be constantly at a concessions stand getting more ice.
If that works, I may try one of these gel neck coolers. Anyone try one of these? The reviews for this one are good.
