I'm not sure if this is the best part of the board to ask this or not, couldn't figure out where to post!

We're going to have a rental car when we first get to WDW. We'll return it the following day. I plan to head out that first night to pick up some groceries to have breakfast in our room. We'll be staying at POR. Can anyone recommend the best place to go? I'm gluten intolerant, so I need a place that will have some convenience items that are gluten free. Also looking for things like hard boiled eggs. I'd prefer to not have to drive super far.

Suggestions?

I can't tell you how to get there, but I'd suggest using a GPS or Google maps to find the nearest Publix. I know there's one on Hwy 192 off the south end of Disney property that is not too far away, but not sure if there might be a closer one. Publix has a wide variety of GF products and I think they usually have boiled eggs in the deli dept.

FYI there's a Whole Foods up nearish Universal. Although we don't regularly shop there at home (this will likely all change when our town actually gets one) we like going there for Orlando trips because of the labeling and products available there.

As for Publix, I think our fave one so far has been the one at Regency Village Shopping Center. It's nearish the big Catholic church (Mary, Queen of the Universe) off of Vineland. Serious pain to get to/from, though, because traffic can be difficult.

Thank you. I'll look into Publix and then map to WFs in case I can't find what I need there (though Publix seems a lot closer). I'll be going on a Saturday night, so hopefully traffic won't be to bad, we'll see...

Local here- Hotel plaza to 535-make a left onto 535. First right(Palm Parkway). Make another right at the next light (Central Florida parkway), pass Sea World and cross International drive-Publix on the right. Or follow Palm Parkway(turns into Turkey Lake-go past Walmart, Whole Foods will be on the right. (Corner of Turkey Lake and Sand lake.)

FYI I avoid the Publix near the outlets(Mary Queen of the Universe)-have found bad food and much higher prices there.

Publix ... OMG I second this ... if for nothing else other than the bakery. They have Christmas cookie platters that are AMAZING. Seriously, if you don't have Publix where you live, you *WILL* become addicted to their bakery. Don't even get me started on their cakes. My mom had one of their cakes for her wedding cake lol.

She's gluten intolerant, so I don't think the bakery will matter to her, but I agree that Publix will have a good selection of groceries.

So just because she is, the rest of the family can't have gluten?

Pretty much. In my house most snacks and baked items are gluten free because it's easier for everyone to eat the same thing than to maintain two separate (and separated) sets of groceries.

The other members of my family do eat gluten, but if I'm cooking for all of us what I make is usually gf. The gluten they consume is usually things like sandwich bread. We actually try to eat less grains, and avoid refined when possible, but the kids would love something like muffins from the bakery as a treat. So if I do to go Publix I'll look into it. Breakfasts without a cooking source is going to be a challenge!
