Hey guys i am big fan of American Football as we call it here in the UK and would love to sample a college game after going to London last year and watching a NFL game

I was wondering who is the nearest College Team and how easy is it to get there and back

University of Central Florida right there in the Orlando area.
University of Florida in Gainesville Florida.

How long will you be in Florida? Looks like UCF doesn't plat at home until September 15 & Florida isn't home again until September 22 after opening at home on September 1.

UCF is on the opposite side of Orlando from WDW and will take about 45 minutes in normal traffic

University of Florida is in Gainesville, is north on 75 about 2 hours from WDW.

Getting tickets to the Florida games will be tricky, you'd probably have a better time finding UCF tickets and it's easier to get to.

Enjoy!

I can make either 15th or 22nd

I would love to go to the Swamp as see Florida how easy is it to get there tho from Disney and how long would it take

Thanks everyone probs going to go for UCF knights tickets as its only 45 mins away which is much better then 2 hours

UCF certainly closer. UF better game, but I'm biased. :)
UF tix will generally be much harder to get yes. But they play Kentucky on the 22nd, and while that's an SEC team - which normally means a tough ticket, Kentucky isn't that great. So you may have better luck with UF tickets if you do want to take the time.
Have fun either way!

If you decide you want to make the drive, there are tickets available for the Florida/Kentucky game. Probably will be a very one-sided game though.

The University of South Florida is just down the road in Tampa -- an hour away -- and they play in Raymond James stadium, home of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Very High Energy, slightly rowdy student section (north end zone) and a whole lotta fun.

Much more so than the UCF "nighty-nights."

13th Sept in a home conference game against Rutgers (a historic team going back to the 1869 season!) which is being televised on Thurs nite by ESPN -- yes, USF makes it to national TV quite often...

A College game is going to completely different fan tradition wise. The drunks will be younger and there's usually a marching band which adds the game.

My son is in the University of Pittsburgh Marching Band and it makes my wife and more part of the game. Also its the only way I'll ever see football in Heinz Field. :thumbsup2

Been to both UCF and UF games (I attended both schools) and you can't even compare the two! UF has really dedicated, PASSIONATE fans and the Swamp gets loud and full of energy..it's awesome! UCF will be a snooze!

I agree with larryz. Tampa is not that far and an easy drive. If you are choosing one game to go to I would recommend you choose the USF Rutgers game. Much nicer stadium and a better overall experience.

As much as it pains me to say this...UF would be the better game to go to. The atmosphere would be big time college football while the other games would be about watching the game. USF would have more atmosphere than UCF...but not the same as UF.

And this comes from a Florida State fan (arch rivals of UF).

USF. :) Go Bulls. :) In Tampa, bonus is the games are at Raymond James Stadium so no crappy college stadium to deal with (I'm a biased alum though). They have games the 1st and 13th. Sept 13 is vs Rutgers so an in conference game which is sometimes more fun.

College football is a bit of a different experience and have a younger crowd than tradition football/ NFL. UCF is closer for you.

Here's an idea which would really give you a feel for the college gameday experience. Do the Florida Gator Central Florida bus trip to Gainesville. Here is the bus info: http://cfgators.com/bustickets/

Add in a game ticket and you are all set.

This is a no brainer for someone from the UK who doesn't have the chance to see American Football regularly. Spend the extra time and money to go to the Swamp. UCF and USF don't even compare to the stature of Florida Gators.

To translate this to a better understanding for you (disregarding who you might be a fan of). This is the equivalent of you choosing between seeing Manchester United vs. seeing West Ham United.

If you go on www.stubhub.com you can buy very reasonably priced tickets in good locations. Look for tickets the provide Electronic Delivery so you can get them immediately and print them vs. dealing with foreign shipping.

Totally agree with this. If you are wanting to get the whole American Football experience the Swamp is where it's at. Nothing quite like SEC football!!

As much as it pains me to say anything nice about the Gators, I have to agree. Spend the time and money. It will be worth the effort.

Absolutely.
