NBC time shifting Olympic coverage....again.

OK, as long as it's objective, I suppose climbing is fine. But it doesn't sound interesting to me.

I suppose if there are skateboard races, I'd be OK with it. But I'm pretty sure it's hot dog moves on a ramp or other course, a la snowboarding half pipe.

So is Olympic surfing supposed to be in the ocean? Or a giant wavepool?

Ocean. The site will be Chiba.

I found some video.

Aside from Michael Plelps and his ubiquitous mother, the prime time obsession is really with gymnastics. The thought of middle-age women camped in front of the television obsessed with pre-pubescent girls made up like hookers and layered with glitter, with bad music and screeching announcers as the soundtrack, all with judged results, is more than I can bear. I expect NBC to provide updates on the British Royal Family during the gymnastics competition to complete the nightmare scenario.

I know I'm late in responding to this, but I have to say the ratio of gymnastics to swimming coverage is not. Even. Close. Gymnastics is only relegated to a few days out of the week, and even when it IS a gymnastics night, the night is STILL dominated by swimming regardless of whether or not it's a Michael Phelps race. And swimming is on every single night. All night. I get that you don't seem to like gymnastics, but come on. Anyone can see that swimming takes precedence over everything.

I'm already sick of both gymnastics and swimming. Two nights of it were fine, but now I'm watching the channels that acknowledge there are other sports in the Olympics. Last night there was a nice mix: rowing, boxing, judo, indoor volleyball, table tennis, weightlifting, and maybe a few others.

Swimming and gymnastics are a few of my favorites, but I'll feel the same way when they start track and field next week. I don't understand why they bunch some of these longer sports into just one week? It does get old after awhile. I'm glad I'm able to catch other events this year with streaming.

If you look through the prime time NBC listings for the rest of the Olympics, it's pretty much only four or five sports - swimming (the first week), track and field (the second week), gymnastics, diving and beach volleyball. Everything else either gets a highlight reel or no coverage on NBC during prime time. Even basketball, tennis and soccer gets relegated to other channels, but at least those have dedicated channels so you can watch entire games without interruption. Fortunately, we have all those channels - if you only had access to network channels, you're pretty well screwed in prime time.
