NBC time shifting Olympic coverage....again.

Has NBC shown any Olympic coverage absolutely "live" in the past 20+ years? Even in Atlanta almost everything was on a 10 minute delay.

I think you're right! :rolleyes2

And yet to show how backwards they are, they aired the luge that killed an Olympian on a trial run without warning or caution before the opening ceremony. There was no need to show that, especially in the beginning of prime time when kids are watching.

Most of the time the excuse is dramatic time zone differences, but there's no dramatic difference this time. They've come up with a new one, though. Prepare to laugh.

"NBC Sports Group Chair Mark Lazarus said Monday that NBC will allow producers to "curate" the coverage to provide proper context."

So there you go Olympic fans. You are in need of someone to curate the coverage, and NBC will provide the service. They could save us all a lot of time and just admit it's ad revenue, ad revenue, ad revenue.

They've made a lot of stuff available for streaming live. However, they rather reserve the marquee events to "plausibly live" broadcasts.

I remember back when the East Coast would get live coverage, but it would be time delayed for the West Coast. However, there would always be a graphic in the corner saying "Previously Recorded". NBC doesn't even bother. It's weird when you see the event or medal presentation and then the athlete is in NBC's studio.

I can't stand NBC's Olympic coverage. I was ticked off when they got their recent extension. Ridiculous time shifting and they skim what they consider the "cream" of many hours of events and package it horribly for their prime time coverage.

I'm as patriotic as the next guy, but I don't need them to edit the prime time so that it is ridiculously American-centric. Let us watch stuff as it unfolds and cut out all the fluff pieces.

I'm just hoping they'll show more of the sports I like & mostly more Americans competing. I know I'm showing an obvious in which athletes I want to watch, but don't most people want to watch their country? I used to try not to miss a minute of the games. For the past couple of Olympics, there have been times when there was nothing on that I wanted to see.

Too funny. We were posting at the same time & I was complaining about not getting to see enough Americans competing. I do watch much more than primetime. That may have attritibuted to our different perspectives.

NBC will do what they always do when the U.S.A. athletes march into the stadium during the opening ceremony. The cameras will spend the majority of the time focusing on the professional basketball (NBA) players.

I don't think I've ever liked NBC's treatment of the Olympics. Remember the year there was Olympics via pay-per-view? Ugh... There is no excuse to put the opening ceremony on a one hour delay.

Admittedly, if I even watch the opening ceremonies, I usually watch it on DVR so I can fast forward through most of it - the whole thing tends to drag on too long for my liking.

As far as the sports programming, I agree with everyone else - NBC over produces everything instead of just showing live competition. I guess they assume that the country is too ADD to sit through a whole competition and would rather have it spoon fed to them in short snippets.

Are there sites that are actually streaming without cable service? NBC lack of support for goggle devices frustrates me.

CBC coverage of the Olympics has traditionally been viewed by Americans who could get their over the air signals. They've generally covered far more than just Canadians.

While I'm making my Olympic viewing wish list, how about more events & less in studio interviews? I like the impromptu interviews, after someone wins a medal. I could do without the in studio interviews though. I'd rather the limited tv time be used on the competitions.

Yeah, I'll be watching mostly online.

I understand them doing it when the time zones are way different, but no excuse in this case.

#NBCFail
We've never streamed the Olympics. Can we choose exactly which competitions we want to see that way?

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check to see, if we get that channel.
