Hi,
My Fi and I just booked our disney cruise honeymoon and we decided to go with Catagory 7, I think our room number is 7128... Anyways, we booked in this catagory because we really wanted a verandah and this was the cheapiest catagory that offered one. I was just wondering what the difference was between a navigator's verandah (which is what we'll have) and a regular verandah besides the price...

TIA

The navigator's veranda is closed in with a window

Before you think that you're really not getting an "outside" verandha, you are.

The difference is rather than a veranda being openned to the outside world for the entire wide of your cabin, your openning to the outside world (once on the verandha) is a porthole that is several feet in diameter. There are differences between what you get on the Magic and Wonder.

Check out these examples

We had a navigator's verandah recently --- LOVED IT!!! It is an outside verandah, separated from your stateroom by a sliding door. When on the verandah, your view is partially obstructed by the partial enclosure. You can see pictures of both verandah types on www.castawayclub.com

IMHO, the navigator verandah worked out better because we had a couple of rather windy nights, and the partial enclosure actually helped to protect us from the winds. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the verandah without freezing to death or blowing away. :)

I'm a big fan of the navigator verandas. We've had regular verandas twice and the navigator twice (with a 3rd time booked for next year).

You are a little more enclosed so as stated you are more protected from the wind. I also like the furniture better. Instead of two chairs and a small table. There is a wood chair, small wood table and a padded bench. Nice for cuddling on which is what honeymoons and cruises are all about :D

The bench is a great place to stretch out and read a book as well.

Another added benefit of the navigators - because of their location you get to do the drill down in Animators Palette instead of out on deck 4.

Enjoy! I think you will be happy with your choice.

So, are these open-to-the-air windows or portholes? I still don't quite understand that. The furniture looks as tho it is not supposed to be exposed to the elements.

The navigator's veranda is closed in with a window

This is a bit misleading as it implies that there's a physical window.

As other's have stated, it's an open verandah. It's a bit more enclosed because of the ships design, but it's still a verandah nonetheless. It's quite nice and perfect for couples.

We just sailed with a Navigator's Verandah on the Wonder and we loved it! Last year we had a regular verandah. We actually liked the Navigator's Verandah more. More privacy, less windy.

I think a regular verandah would be better for people with children though. We became friendly with the people next door to us who were travelling with their grandson and he couldn't see out the window without being lifted up or climbing up on to the chair. The regular verandahs he could have just seen out the plexiglass.

The ONLY drawback we had is that we were so far aft. Most people wouldn't care about that. But I would prefer to be mid ship.

Have to agree with Kelly re: being aft ... it's a bit of a haul to the midship and forward elevaor ... but it was quiet, and close to the hidden deck on deck 7 (we were on deck 6) ... so worst case, you get exercise getting to the elevators :)

So, are these open-to-the-air windows or portholes?

Navigator verandahs are open-to-the-air, it's just that the size/shape of the openning is a large size porthole.

The only glass "window" is the sliding glass door that seperates your stateroom from the verandah.

My husband and I had a navigator veranda for a cruise without the children . It was very cosy, private and romantic. We loved it.
