I went on the UCA web site and found the schedule for the National High School Cheerleading Championship to be held Feb. 6-10. Avoid the crowds . . . here's the schedule I found:

Friday, Feb. 6th

Squads arrive in Orlando.
Partner Stunt National Championship at
Magic Kingdom.
“UCA Night” at Magic Kingdom.

Saturday, Feb. 7

Junior High, Freshman, Junior Varsity preliminaries and Finals. Small, Medium, and Large Varsity preliminaries and the Small and Large Varsity Coed preliminaries and finals.

Sunday, Feb. 8
Non-Building finals, Small, Medium, and Large Varsity semi-finals and finals.
This evening squads will attend the NHSCC Celebration Block Party at the Disney-MGM Studios. The celebration party is a private party with a D.J. and unlimited rides on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ and the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Monday, Feb. 9th
Squads visit a Walt Disney World® Theme Park of their choice for the day. :earseek:

Tuesday, Feb 10th
Squads depart Orlando.

* This schedule is subject to change. Some divisions may even change from Saturday to Sunday or vice versa. The final detailed schedule will depend on the number of teams actually attending this year’s championship. The daily schedule and order of competition will be posted on Varsity.com once available.

Does this hurt anyone's schedule?

We're getting there Friday night and planning to go to Magic Kingdom on Saturday, then Downtown Disney Sunday morning before heading back home - very quick trip! I would think it shouldn't affect mine too much, as they would have just been at Magic Kingdom the night before. It may make the evening crowds busier, but it looks like they will be pretty busy during the day that day. My only concern is where are they staying. We're at Pop Century - I had heard that these type of groups would only be staying at the All-Stars (as far as value resorts). Does this sound right to everyone else?

Thanks for the information gypsydoodlebug! That is right during the time my mom and I will be there, but we will plan accordingly :). Also staying at Pop Century, so we'd be interested to hear where the cheerleaders would be staying.

KSGirl - I found the UCA website, and it says on there that they have the choice of All Stars (doesn't say which particular one) and Caribbean Beach, so I think we're safe with Pop Century. We've been there before when there are cheerleaders in the parks and barely noticed them in the parks at all. My main concern was the hotel, but I think we'll be okay in that respect.

That's good news kbkids! :bounce:

How long will you be staying? We are arriving Feb 7 and departing Feb 11. My mother is getting really excited for her first trip to Disney and it would be a shame if large, boisterous crowds were to interfere with our touring. Sounds like all will be fine :).

We're just going for a quick trip - we don't live too far away. We're getting there Friday, going to MK on Saturday, and leaving Sunday. Early February is my most favorite time to go, but we just went in December (pulled the kids out of school), and I can't justify pulling them out again this soon. But I still didn't want to miss a February trip. My DH didn't want to go back again this soon, so we're taking Grandma and going for a quick visit with Mickey.

Have a great weekend! I know we will be having an awesome time too :)!

KSGirl, you know what I would do in your situation. Since their schedule shows Monday as their free day, I'm assuming they will go to MK or MGM, most likely Mk since they were just at MGM the night before. I would just plan that day to be for Epcot or Animal Kingdom. I would think these two parks would be their least likely to go to. And I would definitely stay away from MGM on Sunday night.

It is funny how scary cheerleaders can actually be. I will be arriving Feb. 10 to Feb. 17, so I think I will be missing them. ALso I will be staying at the Pop Century, I will probably be safe from those loud and cheerful cheerleaders. LOL

Great idea, kbkids.

I have planned:
Sunday- EE at MK, then leave for Epcot
Monday (cheerleader's free day)-EE at AK, then Disney MGM (hoping same as you are....that the cheerleaders might be less inclined to do MGM, as they were there the previous evening)
Tuesday-Early breakfast at MK, MK all day

We are fitting all four parks into three days, since my Mom has never been before. I'm planning to use EE, so we can get that extra hour in, then pretty much in the parks till closing. We have several PSs made for sitting down to relax. I warned Mom that she's going to need a vacation after this vacation!!

Maybe we'll cross paths while we're there, tho' I've heard that Pop Century is huge! Look for the two giggling ladies....ACTING like silly high-school cheerleaders!!

You have helped me make my decision on what park to visit on Monday,
We are arriving late on February 8th so no real time to do any parks. On Monday I guess thats the day we will do Universatl Studios and have a late dinner at the pepper market.
Thanks for the heads up.

According to the UCA website, Feb 6 (Fri) is “UCA Night” at Magic Kingdom. According the the Disney.com website, the hours for the MK on this date is 9am to 7 pm. Does this mean that the park will re-open after 7pm for a special party for UCA? (My family is planning to visit the MK on this date.)

How many cheerleaders actually attend? Are we talking about 5,000 extra people or 100,000 extra people? We arrive on Sunday Feb 8th, and will aviod MK on Monday, but I am wondering what the impact will really be on our day.

Thanks!

PiperG - I don't know exactly how many attend, but we usually go this time every year. We have seen them in the parks before, but they aren't a big issue. I probably wouldn't go to MK on Monday (why tempt fate?), but we've run into them at MGM before, and it's really not a big deal. They pretty much split up when they get in the parks, so you'll see a group of maybe 10 teenagers - nothing out of the ordinary. My main concern is always where are they going to be staying. They are known for being very loud late at night.

Hey all I just wanted to say my family and I will be at PopCentury from Feb 4th thru 9th too!

Thanks kbkids. That is what DH thought. We won't worry to much.

:D I really don't know what the fuss is about. We often are down as we will be this year when the Cheerleaders are there. I find them delightful and fun. They are polite group. I have had many enjoyable conversations with different groups in resturants, malls, parks etc. It is fun to hear about them, the competion, and where they are from.
By the way I am a Grandfather of 6, father of 5, husband of 1. I am glad I'll been done to see the cheerleaders again in my travels. I think it is great to see kids doing positive things.

We are arriving that Friday and planning on doing some Animal Kingdom and then to Boma for dinner. Doing Magic Kingdom on Saturday and then MGM Sunday morning. This shouldn't mess us up too much.
