This is a real pain, as I bank with the Nationwide and I nearly also pay for things on my CC. Its gone up to pay for all the cheap mortgage deals that they are giving their customers 2.5% of which I was one until today. Paid the blinkin thing off and cashed in our ISA stocks and shares as it was pants. At least we are mortgage free now.
I can't really complain as I'm one of those people who only uses my Nationwide account for spending abroad. May as well just use my FairFX card next time.

Same with my Thomas Cook (Barclays) credit card. When I took it out you got £2 per £100 spent in a branch, no card fee, no forex fee, no foreign exchange fee and you could redeem your travel pounds on foreign exchange. They have upped the rates and dropped all the benefits one by one over the last 2 years. In April they sent a notification saying they were no longer allowing travel pounds to be redeemed on currency. I went and spent all my points on some $$$ while I could. They still had the cheek to say that all the other benefits still stand. I see no difference between that and any other credit card TBH so I am unclear as to what benefits they refer to.
They all make their money on people's ignorance. Folk take out these cards for the benefits but don't read the literature and updates that come in the mail and are blissfully unaware of the changes as they continue to rack up charges. It is shocking how many people don't read anything about their products, terms and conditions and updates.
I really hope not! I would hate the hassle of changing cards again.
Nationwide were quite huffy when i closed my account with them. They asked why i was cancelling and i said because they were going to charge for foreign transactions. After the long speech of trying to convince me they "dont really charge enough to close my account". I was told i wasnt the type of customer they wanted anyway!

Incredible. That's all I can say. I would have made a written complaint though. That is now way to speak to a customer. Business is business.
That's even worse than the consumer issue I had last year where the company in question sent me a letter inviting me to "Please contact us so that we can clear up any misconceptions you may have about poor service on our part..."
Really not happy about this. We have had Flexaccounts for over 20 years with Nationwide, now only really use them for foreign transactions as our current account is elsewhere, so probably they won't mind if they lose our business.
Join the club! I only use credit providers to MY advantage. I refuse to pay them interest - or anything I don't have to. It just means being very careful with how I spend on them.
