National reservation problem

We have a reservation for Emerald Isle for Feb which we made in Oct. We have NOT changed it in anyway, but when we checked to confirm it the price had changed. ALOT higher! We have since checked a few times and the price is higher still. We have tried calling National several times and even faxed our original confirmation. No resolution.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem? And if so, how do we resolve it? I would love to get it straightened out before we leave.

(Making a new reservation is even higher, so that is not an option.)

After reading your email, I just checked my National reservation and it's around $60 higher then when I booked it. I can't believe this! I'm thinking of cancelling anyway because I got a great rate with Alamo. But I've been loyal to National for years and really enjoyed using their Emerald Isle feature. I will try calling them to see if they can resolve this.

I just checked mine for this weekend and it went up also!!!! My rates didn't change, but somewhere in the taxes, surcharges and fees it went up $5.

I'm bringing my original receipt with me and hoping they'll honor it. If not, I might fight it at the counter before my flight home.

UGHHHHHH!!! :sad2:

Update: Just read the fine print on my ressie and it does say:
Total may vary slightly at time of rental based on the election of prepaid gas, optional coverage items or CHANGES IN TAXES, SURCHARGES AND FEES.

Wow, I've never heard of this happening. I hope you can get it resolved.

I'm curious. How did you go in and check the reserved rate? With the "View" option?

I do know that if I go in and try and modify it will show me a new rate but if I do not accept the new rate, it goes back to my original rate. I only view it that way if I do need to change the time or coupon or whatever. Otherwise, I never touch my booked reservation. If I want to check if rates have come down, I book a new reservation to see what current rates are.

Best of luck!

I didn't modify my reservation at all and it went up. My rate for 10 days was really low. I had a mid sized booked for $206 including taxes. Now it's around $270, this is much higher than my confirmation. I wonder if this is another problem connected with national's new computer system.

I see but could you tell me then how you are viewing your higher rate? With "View Reservation"?

I'm just curious. I normally never touch my current reservation unless I need to make a change to it but I do, almost daily, check current rates to hopefully get a lower rate...

I'm just curious how everyone is seeing a higher rate then what they booked. Thanks!

After reading the first post, I went to nationals website and clicked on view/modify/cancel. I clicked to view where I had to enter my reservation number and my last name and from there I was able to see my reservation.

Thank you. That really stinks. I hope it's just a glitch and that they'll fix it very soon. If enough people call and complain, hopefully it will come to their attention.

Good luck everyone.

If taxes or other goverment fees have gone up, you will have to pay them... It's kind of like if the Sales Tax rate increased you have to pay the new rate. Now they should honor everything else. It's not National, it's the goverment. Taxes are paid based on USE date, not reservation date. (SORRY!)

Mine went up too. This happened to me on my last trip and I email them at least 4 times back and fourth trying to resolve it. Finally the rep said they would honor my price, BUT I had to take it to the counter, well that didn't work out either and I still ended up paying a higher price. I love National, but am not loving them right now. How dare they not honor the price I agreed on. I am booked on Alamo for my 2 week spring trip and was surprised to see their rate drop again today. I'm paying $94 base weekly rate for a midsize SUV. I leave next week and have national, and Alamo is the same price, so I'm now pretty much stuck with it. BTW, the increase in most cases is the concession fee has been added back on, so this is the case if you used the 6600330 code.

Yes, that's true but you usually don't see the tax/fees increases until you drop off you car and they usually aren't very much $$, at least that's been the case for me, but one poster said it went up $60. I can't imagine the taxes/fees would go up that much.

I have experienced the same thing, about six weeks ago. There was an increase (relatively small, thank goodness) in my base rate even though the reservation had not been modified.

Twice I emailed the reservations dept, and I was asked to forward my original email confirmation. (I mailed the entire email, including headers, as an attachment, so that they could see I had not simply forged the original.) Neither time did I get a reply, and eventually rates went down and I simply cancelled the reservation in question and made a new one.

I would not be optimistic that a printed confirmation by itself will be enough to get your old rate, for two reasons - first, because they are so easily forged, and second, because with just a single printout, they can't be sure that the increase was not because you had made some sort of change to the reservation subsequent to printing your original. (In other words - even if you're telling the truth, there are others who are willing to lie. And they don't wear badges to make themselves easily detectable.)

I also noticed today that the concession fee has returned to the Priceless reservations. Well, it was nice while it lasted! At least the code still gives a decent discount on the base rate.

I notice something with the $60+ change in my rates. My free day coupon is no longer listed. I had a free day applied to this reservation and it's not there anymore. I wonder if they removed the coupon and it changed my rates?

The most recent increase that we saw was the Priceless concession. That one I understand and realize that we have to pay it. We also have a coupon, but that is still showing up.

The biggest increase in ours was the base rate, which has gone up over $100 for 8 days. I have a feeling that it had to do with the launch of their new website. That is around when we made the reservation.

We are using the view option on the website, with name and confirmation number. I had heard too many problems with trying to modify an existing reservation.

Our flight has also changed and we now get in after midnight, so we have the added issue of pickup on a different date, which I saw gave some folks problems as well.

My 4 day rental for this weekend using EA increased $8.00. Looks like they added the concession fees to my code 6600330 and increased the total to $88.
I'm going to use DME to get to the AKL. I booked a 3 day rental picking up at the Dolphin for $53.08 on Sat and will be returning the car to the airport on Tuesday.
I cancelled my original reservation today.

I called National, & they told me that mine is the same, I am going to check the website.

Thanks for the heads up

Patricia

Ok, reading your posts did get me concerned, so i went in and found my reservation- my amount for President's week is exactly the same. Thanks for the heads up though.

You can try disputing the charge on your credit card.

Regardless of what somebody could forge, the agency is fully capable of changing reservations surreptitiously too. How else does anybody prove a reservation. I can't think of a way therefore IMHO this situation calls for applying the rule that the customer is always right.
