Has anyone been charged late fees at National when returning your car back at MCO? Is there a certain dollar amount per hour that you are late or is it just an automatic charge for a full day if you are an hour or 2 late? I'd expect to be charged a full day for more than 2 hours; but maybe they just give you an hourly fee up until then?
I put my ressie in for a drop off at 12 noon, but you can never tell. My flight doesn't leave until 4:25pm and I'd rather not drop it off until at least 1:00, but when I put in that time; they charge a full day. I've read somewhere here that they allow a "grace period" and was wondering if anyone has had any fees for being late?
Thanks for any assistance!!

Based on the National Website's FAQ:

Late Charges

National Car Rental calculates rates based on a 24-hour period from the time of rental. If you do not bring back the car on time, you will incur a late charge.

I suggest that you call in and ask as an "innocent question." i've done that a lot of times without telling them my name or reservations.

I rented from National last month and asked about their grace period. They told me it was 2 hours. That worked for me - so I never found out how much they would've chargeed if I went over that time. Hope this helps a little.

It happened to me on my last trip. I had put in pick up at 12 and drop off at 1. There is a 1 hour grace period. I got the car back after 2. They charged me an additional hour (regular rate not discunted).

This helps alot and makes me feel so much better. Thank you so much!!! I will call and make an "innocent inquiry" as suggested.

Thanks again!!

Per the rep at the EA 800#, the grace period is 59 minutes.
I had better make sure I don't get lost on the way back either!
::yes::
Thank you!!

Yes, the grace period is 59 minutes. Your reservation usually indicates the charge for each additional hour. In my experience, the charge for the first additional hour is one-half the daily rate (charged for 60 to 119 minutes past the 24-hour point), so two additional hours (120 minutes) ends up being the same as an extra day.

Thanks Ralph. I did see those prices on my reservation, but it didn't dawn on me (since it had 0) that that's what it would be if I was late. I'm a goof. :rolleyes:
