National Coupons for August 2010

Hi all

We're heading off to WDW in August (18 - 29) and are looking at some killer rental car rates with National. Has anyone found any good codes or coupons for the end of the summer? Everything I find exprires 4/30.

I'll buy the Entertainment Book if that's the best option. Would anyone be willing to send me the current codes for weekly/10 day rentals? I see that I can get the book for 1/2 price right now at Mousesavers but since I never end up using the other coupons, I'd like to see how much they'd save me before purchasing. It would be much appreciated

My vacation last year was in August. I had spent almost 2 years following prices and trends to have a good plan for the best deal. I found that overall, August was one of the worst months to try for savings. I discovered the best thing to do was reserve the car exactly one year ahead of time, because November seems to be the month when rates shot up. A small coupon of around I think it was $20 came out closer to summer. I know the coupon was worth way less than the coupon offered earlier for the previous months.

Since I had already reserved a car with a fairly reasonable rate and the prices went way up, that coupon was worthless to me since using it would mean I would have to accept the higher rate. I see you are familiar with mousesavers. They generally have all the codes listed. Although we lucked out and got National as the cheapest rate, we found the closer to August you get, the less options they will have in some of the catagories on the websites.

I reserved a midsize through national for August 18th through August 29th for $260.44 total, using the emerald club code 5007125 and the entertainment book coupon ND1283FJA for $40 off a 10 day rental.

I wish we had planned this trip earlier so I could have booked it out before the summer rates went up. But a week at OKW showed up via a trade with RCI a couple of weeks ago so I couldn't resist an unplanned trip I'm hoping the rental car costs won't negate the savings on the hotel.

I tried the Entertainment coupons and then put in midsize instead of full-size. The price went from just over $500 to $287 - huge difference. I guess we'll pack lighter so we won't need to extra trunk space. I'm going to go order my Entertainment book now.

Are you using a corporate id in addition to the coupon? The reason I ask is that we're looking for rentals for the exact same days and my price for a midsize is coming up at $260.59 when I use the $40 off coupon and emerald club id, 5007125, or $260.59 when using the walmart id, 5000304 or 5504966.

I am just using the regular Emerald Club Corp Code (5007125). I'm not sure what the difference is? Maybe it's the pick-up/drop off times. I'm picking up at noon on the 18th and dropping off at 3:00 on the 29th. Maybe that's adding an extra day? It's coming out to 1 week at $159.89 plus 5 days at $22.84 each, for a total before taxes and fees of $274.09.

It's then taking off a discount of $27.41 and then Ent Coupon of $40, adding back on the fees/taxes $80.48. Total cost: $287.16

I would be very happy if I could get it down less, but it's still so much better than the $500 I was getting.
