Nathan's Wish Trip Aug. 2008

It is going to be very hard not to take a peek, especially since the link is right there in front of me :) Thank you for all you do to add a little sunshine to kids who could really use it.

I was trying to think of activities for the kids on the plane. Thanks to bill, I went on the www.themouseforless.com and went to downloads and found all kinds of disney trivia questions, word search and coloring pages. I am going to make them each folders with there own pages to do on the plane. Any other suggestion that I can put in the folders? I didn't want to bring a DVD player, because what do we do with it while we are in the parks? I didn't want to leave it in the hotel room. Nathan's attention span is about 15 minutes and I can see him getting bored real fast. The excitment will make that 10X worse. I will bring cards and ????? :confused3

We were told by our MAW headquarters that "transportation" will pick us up at 7:45 am on August 16. They are providing transportation to and from the airport. :yay:

We are getting close to the 1 month mark. :cheer2:

What a great idea. I think I will put together a travel folder for the members of our group. We love puzzles, trivia and even coloring so I think even the big "kids" would have fun with something like this.

I can't believe your trip is coming so soon:yay:

How about some sort of a Leap Pad or Leap Frog that can accommodate head phones? Some are pretty small. Lysi loved hers as she could take it out, put it away and pick up where she left off any time. Mostly, for the plane ride, she slept. How about reading a story to a child on the plane? Magnetic board games can be fun if there are not too many pieces.

My kids were smaller..but I put together gift bags for each of them with wrapped small items and then let them open the items one by one as the flight progressed. They were little girls so one thing was a small "glass" slipper I found at the dollar store...another was a small disney flip book...rremember those old fashioned books that looked like a moving picture when you flipped the pages...
maybe you could use that concept and wrap/reveal the things you find one at a time....
check out your local dollar store for things....

I saw a Make a wish transportation van today and thought about you!!!:wizard: :wizard:
I never saw one before.....

Just cheking in to see how everything is going for your trip! We are really excited over at the disboutique board! I am glad you posted a pic of your family! You have a beautiful family. And they all look so happy. I am sorry about what happened to your son. I had never heard about EEE until a few years ago when I saw a story about it. It is really scary. Just came over o give some hugs:grouphug:

We bought a Leapster for my daughter to use on the airplane last year. But, she couldn't hear it, even with headphones on, over the engine noise! So, if you're bringing something like that, make sure you have really good headphones! We bought these and they work great.

But, I don't know if your kids would want to wear Panda headphones! :rotfl:

I just realized I hadn't subscribed to your PTR before, but I am now! I can't wait until the kid's outfits start rolling in!!

I'm guessing for some reason I hadn't subbed either. :confused3

I am now!

I'm so excited about your upcoming trip! Wishing you a magical time!

We are below the one month mark :cool1: I think I am more excited than the kids. I want the trip to hurry up and come, but the kids start school :sad1: a few days after we get back. It will be good for them but then comes making lunches and homework and my oldest moves out again and heads off to college :sad2: We are a very close family and it is always difficult when someone is missing. Last fall when Nathan was in the hospital(my husdand or myself took turns staying in the hospital with him) and kim was at school , there was only 4 of us at the table :sad2: Last Thanksgiving was wonderful because everyone was home :) , the first time since Nathan got sick in August.
I have been talking a lot with the wondersful people from the Disboutique, what a special group of angels  My kids know that something is coming, but they have no idea what. I can't wait to see their faces :rolleyes1

I am certain your family has some awesome things in store. Those DISboutiquers are amazing!!! I have often thought about what it will be like when my first goes off to college. I really don't like thinking about it!! Anyway, I cannot wait to see all of your goodies. It's so much fun to see what they come up with. You are correct: they are angels. :)

Look what we got today :cool1:

The kids were so excited.

The one for Nathan is from Goofy.

The one for the girls was from Snow White. It was addressed to the "Royal House OF....." how cute was that :)
Even my 17 year old thought that was pretty cool :cool1:

Thank you so much for sending these :dance3:

We are trying to come us with a schedule. I was going to try to enter the parks on the days that they had the extra magic hours because of less crowds. We will probably not use the US/IOA tickets and buy 1 extra day at MK (that is our favorite park). We want to plan a day to relax so we might sleep late and go to Disney Quest in the afternoon. It looks awesome on the web site. Has anyone been there? Our other option was to go to one of the water parks for a day. We have 6 full days there. 1 Seaworld, 3 park hopper and 2 other days to plan. Here is a tenative schedule....

Aug 16 (Sat) arrive at 2pm check in to CBR, go to GKTW for dinner/orientation
Aug 17 (Sun) MK (my bestfriend from high school moved to FL a few years ago and we will be getting together) :yay: .
Aug 18 (Mon) Seaworld ??
Aug 19 (Tues) Rest (water park or sleep late & Disney Quest) ??
Aug 20 (Wed) MK breakfast at Crystal Palace
Aug 21 (Thurs) Epcot (Kim's birthday) Dinner at Rose & Crown (Her choice)
Aug 22 (Fri) AK morning & HS afternoon Dinner at 50's Primetime cafe
Aug 23 (Sat) pack, swim, shop, Leave at 6pm

this schedule is not cast in stone. It might change a hundred times before we go. Is it important to go in early for the extra magic hours because we will have the GAC?

Isn't it so funny how everyone loves to get mail and teenagers are no exception especially if it is from Disney! Love your plans, you will be able to take things a little more leisurely than we will with the extra days. Can't wait to see what the disboutiquers will be sending your way. It's like Christmas in the summer:cheer2:

Robin....the magic is starting to happen. Keep your eyes open for fairies;) I am so excited to be a part of Nathan's wish.

...t.

Robin, our trips overlap.

I have a 14yo son too. I made the reservations for this trip back in January, and this spring, my son (the perfect model of a child, smart, sweet, gentle and kind) had a severely violent incident that the doctors do not know whether it was physical (like a seizure) or some sort of mental illness. Not only was my son hospitalized for 4 weeks (and dragged through the juvenile legal system), but a family member was hurt during the incident and he has incredible guilt about it, and anxiety caused by fear that it will happen again.

We were not sure he was going to bounce back, and he had to do summer school, and have some surgery to correct a physical thing they thought might be a contributing factor.

So, this is our (unofficial) make a wish trip too.

I sorry to hear about your son :sad1: It sounds like things are looking up a little. Where will you be staying? What are your trip dates?

Hi Robin...I am from the Dis thread too and I am coming to wish you much pixie dust and fun on your upcoming trip! How exciting! I think your itinerary is great. My dh is a big US fan so last summer we had to take a day and go there. Although it wasn't as bad as I thought, I really wished I was in Disney the whole day. I think your decision to skip it is a good one. Somehow Disney feels safer and more loving and magical! :wizard:

I am so sorry about your son and the EEE. My only encounter with this is with horses. I know we vacinate them so they don't get it. I had no idea people could get it.

I am looking forward to watching your trip unfold...have a great day! :yay:

Thank you for all your well wishes :) We are sooo excited. I think I am more excited then everyone else :confused3 .

It is weird that there is a vacine for horses but not for humans. They just announced on the news today that it is EEE and West Nile season again and the protect yourself. I am nervous to even let my kids go out side at all :scared1: . I want to dip them all in bug spray and not let them out. When Nathan got EEE we were told that there is a 1 in 10 million chance of getting bit by a mosquito that has the EEE virus. We should have Nathan play the lottery :) .
Nathan got mail from the NH MAW office with a gift card for a local acrade place called Fun Spot. It is up in the lakes region so we will try to go later in the year. He was pretty excited and put it in his wallet right away.

Hi Robin! I just subscribed to your thread. We're a fellow "Wish" family too. I just wanted to wish you a magical trip...you must be so excited that it is coming up so soon! I can't wait to read all about the fun!:goodvibes

Nathan and his father are off to Fenway Park, to see the Boston Red Sox vs NY Yankees. He was sooo excited to go. Nathan is a HUGE Red Sox Fan. It is good for the boys to be together (and it gives me a break). He was given the tickets and a David Ortiz jersey by the Labell Family. Their daughter Kelly, died from EEE in 2005 and they set up a foundation to help raise awareness about EEE and to donate items. They also gave the elemetary school a box of 500 insect repellant wipes for the kids on the playground and at sporting events.

My kids made a countdown chain yesterday. Everyday the tear off a chain, and it is one day closer to ...Here we come WDW :cool1: It is one of the download that I found on "The Mouse For Less" web site.

Checking in from the disboutique thread also! Sounds like the trip is getting closer and everyone is getting excited.
