Nasty, rude couple at Vero Beach today.

When I read about situations like this I always come up with what would have been a fun response (of course it is nothing that I would ever actually do).

To this one it seemed to me that the wife was the ruder of two. I have visions of walking over and addressing myself to the husband.

"I'm sorry but I couldn't help but overhear and I want you to know that my heart goes out to you and I have the greatest sympathy for your situation"

Of course at this point they are eating it up thinking that I am siding with them.

"How tragic, your wife's condition and all. What is the name of that disorder where a person can't help themselves but make rude and nasty comments? That is so sad and must be a real burden for you."

Yep. If something's wrong with your meal, you're entitled to point it out politely the moment you realize it. But you should never be a jerk to your waiter before your food is served and your bill presented (if it's ever OK to act like a jerk). It's too easy for the kitchen to have some disgusting fun at your expense!

For all we know, these folks look for anything about their server that they could use as "ammunition" and consider their "manipulation" merely just "using the tools" they have to get a better deal from a restaurant than was being offered.

I was just thinking the same thing myself. Hopefully, this tactic won't be added to his arsenal of manipulation.
