Are there any must sees/dos in the port of nassau before or after our excursion? We want to do see as much as possible!

I am sure that many will have input on this.. For me, the port at Nassau leaves a lot to be desired. There is a "mall" that you HAVE to go through and that mall is full of folks wanting to braid your hair, provide transportation to Atlantis, take you on a tour, etc. I think that most would agree that it is overwhelming, albeit the way of life for many Bahamians. If you want to experience town, you will go though this. If you are adventurous, leave the port and go down to Bay Street (about a block away, cant miss it, main road), turn right and go to the straw market. On your walk you will see many of the shops that are presented on board. It is worth an experience, just do not go in with a lot of very high expectations.

We've had great excursions in Nassau. Not sure how much time you have in port but there are some interesting things to see on this walking tour - http://www.frommers.com/destinations/new-providence/walking-tours. If you don't have that much time, see the things on the tour that are close to the port including the straw market, which is not quite as authentic as it was decades ago. A simple "no thank you" usually works when asked it you want a taxi, want your hair braided, want to buy something. Have a great cruise!

If you want to get off the ship, I would suggest doing an excursion. Blue Lagoon is nice and Atlantis is quite popular (friends of mine liked it).

I also hear good words about the British Colonial which is near the port. It's not an excursion though.

I though the vendors in Nassau were annoying... Then I experienced Jamaica last week... LOL The area was much nicer but the vendors were in our face. Nassau was nothing in comparison.

By booking an excursion, you avoid the vendors when you get off the ship... and they generally bother you less when you go back to the ship.
