Nassau Bahama's - Sheraton Resort

As I said above I'd post an update after my trip to the Bahamas last week. We cruised on Royal Carb out of Port Canaveral.

We did make the trip to the Sheraton last Wed. We took the number 10 bus as this thread discusses and did cost $1.25 each way. The walk to the bus from the ship was a bit further than I expected. Don't get the wrong impression that it's a far walk, but I expected the bus to be just outside the port area. You have to walk a few blocks to find it. I believe it was on the corner of Bay and George streets. It was probably a 15 minute bus ride.

We actually did the day room for $99.00. We figured if we were going to spend $50 just to get in we'd want a room for a bathroom and shower. The room location was on the first floor and just outside the side door was the beach. It was a great location for the day, but if I was staying for multiple days the room location wasn't very good. The view stunk. You have access to the until 6 pm.

The beach was very nice. Some locals selling their wares, but they weren't pushy at all. The local pushing drinks was a bit annoying at times, but he left us alone after we told him no the first time.

The pools were nice. They had one empty as they were doing some maintenace. We mostly hung on the beach and swam in the ocean. Hardly any seaweed at all. The water was nice.

The Wyndam is right next door. As others have noted there really isn't a clear dividing line between the two. We did walk over to the Wyndam to check it out, but that was it. The pool water was really cold when we stepped into it.

We had lunch at the pool bar. It was a bit expensive. I think lunch cost the two of us around $40 with tip. We did get one round of drinks which was around $20 for two pina coladas.

We ended up leaveing shortly after 5 PM. The bus runs until 7 PM, but I'd check for sure when you go.

We didn't take the bus back, and we took a cab which cost us $15 for two.

Over all it was a great day, and I'd go back again if given the chance.

So the day room was $99? It would make sense for us to get that then since there are 4 of us...either way $100, right? Was there a slide at the pool?

Thanks!

No slide at the Sheraton. This is one at the Wyndam, but I didn't use it. The day room is $99, but I think that is just for two people. I believe, as others have stated, there is an additional charge for the thrid and fourth person.

We went to the Sheraton last week during our Wonder cruise. We weren't really overly impressed. The beach was nice, clean with lots of chairs. The main pool was nice and warm (we liked that) and the bathrooms were right by the main pool and they were also clean. However, the drinks were very expensive at $9 for rum punch and $3.45 for a fountain pop. Food was also very expensive and not all that good. We took a cab both ways as had not been to Nassau before and weren't comfortable venturing on the bus alone. Seems that might have been a wise decision after 18 tourists were held at gunpoint that day from our ship the the RCL ship. We did venture over to the Crystal Palace Casino which is attached to the Sheraton and enjoyed an hour of adult fun. We found the slots to be fairly loose. The cab costs us $15 each way. We would try somewhere else the next time.

I do agree the drinks were overpriced. We only had one alcoholic drink while there. If they were even 20% cheaper I probably would have had two, and they would have made out better in the long run.

Everybody is entitled to thier opinion, but I found the resort to be very nice. It was clean and well maintained. Lots of pool options, lots of chairs, and the ocean was nice. I was definitely impressed and would go back for sure. I found it right up there with any Marriott Resort that I've stayed at.

You might want to check on this - I had read on Cruise Critic that the $99 was for 2 people and there was an additional charge for the 3rd and 4th person.

Sorry I didn't get back to this earlier...

We did go to the Sheraton...was me and 2 of my DDs, ages 6 and 11

Cab ride was $15 plus tip..ride was nice and driver was great. Told us lots of little bits of info

Cost at the Sheraton was $50, girls were half price.

Friends of mine also went, but left before I did. They got a day room for $120 and they had 3 adults, a teen, 3 little ones and a baby (8 total). The gentleman at the front desk knew this and still charged them for 4. They even told him they had two more adults coming who arrived just after me) and he told them to just give them the room number, no need for them to come to the desk. Great deal for them! lol

My DDs and I had wristbands, but my friends group didn't, they just had to provide the room number for towels etc.

Make sure to return your towels as there is a charge if you don't, although I have no idea how they would charge you if you didn't have a room and paid cash as I did. I only gave they my name when I got the towels.

My friend got the buffet lunch for $20 and the kids were half price. She said the food was very good.

Beach was nice...a bit of seaweed when we were there, but nice. People selling things and I am a sucker. Same things can be bought by the ship for less...although it seemed like one man was selling more than just his "cocoanut drinks"...

Pools were on the chilly side, but the kids liked them. My DD and the teen went to the Wyndam pools and said they were nice, but also cool. Liked the slide.

11 of us shared a cab back for $40 plus tip. Also a nice ride and driver. He dropped some of at the straw market and the rest at the port. I found everyone to be extremely nice on the island and would venture out again.

3rd time there and first time I stepped foot on the island. I usually stay on the ship, but we wanted larger pools and some beach time. Plus there were MANY families that I saw on the first day who were very, I'll say rude, on the first day by the Mickey pool. WHen told children in swim diapers needed to use the splash area as opposed to the pool, they proceeded to take off the swim diapers and let them continue swimming. I guess nothing can be said then??? Actually, there was one family who was giving the guy a really hard time, screaming that there was nothing teeling them this before they boarded and asking how this could be a family cruise...saddest part was the DCL crew member suggested they take the swim diapers off their little girls.... I was flabberghasted!!! Needless to say, the Mickey pool was closed later that day. I have no idea if it was closed at any other time as we did not go back the rest of the cruise...

Thanks so much for posting this review. I've been following this thread as it sounds like a posibility for us. Sounds like you felt pretty safe. Did you get a chance to see the jitney busses? Did they look okay? So, you didn't say whether you felt you made the right decision or would have prefered to stay on the ship. Were you happy with your choice? Will you do it again. Thanks:goodvibes

Oh, and that is disturbing that a CM would suggest for parents to just remove the swim diaper. Sounds like the policy is back firing.

Oh, yeah, I feel we made a good decision with what we did. Felt safe the whole time, even when it was just me and DDs. I would do it again if that is what we are looking to do, but I think next time we may try seeing more of the island.

Ohhh so glad I found this thread!!! We went on the Wonder in Jan of last year and never did much on Nassau since we've been there before, and thinking well tomorrow is Castaway Cay. Wrong! It was too windy and we never got to dock. :sad1: So sad. So this year I think I will be buying the day pass to here to get some beach time for sure!!!!

To the post 2 posts ago I think, we used the jitney/local bus when we were in Nassau 4 years ago vacationing on the island, we rode it twice, it was very safe for us. And actually quite entertaining. They all sing to the music and don't care if you can hear them. They were all very nice to us. Who knows if things have changed or not. Its been a while.
