So true!
I hope you guys have beautiful weather for your whole trip and a couple inches of non travel impacting snow for your son. Had to laugh at the vision of you all tossing gifts to people and hitting the road. Hoping it doesn't come to that! If the Memphis area gets snow, it's usually in Feb. I think I've only ever seen a white Christmas twice the whole time we've been in West TN. The mountains can get snow a lot earlier, but hopefully you guys will luck out.
My niece had a beautiful, snowy wedding. They actually had the week off, before Christmas.
She said that, because any time we go up there between Halloween & Christmas, it snows. It never did that, when we lived there & hoped for snow.
We must be jinxed.
Now, you can understand our plan to get out of dodge, if snow is predicted.
I think I can count on one hand how many white christmases i've experienced in 29 years...February seems to be our snowiest month

Yay, another Nashville area planner. My mom and I will be visiting family in Springfield over Columbus Day weekend. Aside from Nashville is there anywhere in the area that's a must see? The Bell Witch Cave is on our list as well as another park which I can't seem to remember the name of at the moment.
I'll be watching for suggestions & updates to your plans. Please post a review, after your trip. You'll be a few months ahead of us.
I sure will, I am looking forward to the trip. My sister, BIL and I went about 10 years ago for a wedding and I absolutely loved Nashville. There was so much to see but we were only there from Friday to Sunday and had the wedding in the mix. We went to a place called the Beer Cellar and had a blast!!! I think we stayed at a Holiday Inn all I remember is that it was outside of the city center and the traffic was horrible.Yay, another Nashville area planner.I'll be watching for suggestions & updates to your plans. Thanks to the suggestion of the awesome ladies here, we're staying at Omni, so we should avoid most of the traffic. I'm looking forward to your review though. Vacation planning is so much fun. I've seen trip reports for other destinations on Community Board. Feel free to post one here. I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy reading it.Vacation planning is fun! I love reading about new destinations. Right now I am hours away from the end of what will be a 9 day trip to St John in the USVI. Before we came here I did so much reading and research that I felt like I had already been here. I wish there was a place here to post trip reports about places other than Disney!!!
I will keep you updated with our plans, etc and give you as much info as I can. I love sharing with fellow travellers.
The third I'll have to keep checking for. Now, to look for Nashville reservations. Unfortunately, I'm having a harder time figuring Nashville's restaurants out, because of planned evening events that we need to work around. Apparently, it's time to get on it & make a decision.
I'm off to see what's available now.
I'm working on revising our trip plans. Now that we've decided to add Mammoth Cave, I'm wondering if Bowling Green is worth a stopover. I was thinking we could leave Nashville on check-out day in time to see the ranger speech & take an early(ish) tour of the cave. After the tour, well have lunch there. After lunch, we could drive to Bowling Green to have that evening & the next morning to see the city. We've also decided to add Chattanooga to the itinerary. Should we spend 1 night in Bowling Green & 1 in Chattanooga or 2 nights in Chattanooga? We won't have a lot of time for Chattanooga, if we only spend one night, but that's okay, if BG is a city we should try to see. Which would provide better food & better evening entertainment? As always, all input is welcome.
I was editing my post, while you were typing.I would go two nights in chatt especially if you plan to do the aquarium
We're not fans of zoos & aquariums. Would you still choose 2 nights in Chattanooga?I was editing my post, while you were typing. We're not fans of zoos & aquariums. Would you still choose 2 nights in Chattanooga?
Then no you would be okay with one night. Rock city isn't far from ChattanoogaThanksThen no you would be okay with one night. Rock city isn't far from Chattanooga
Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking one night in Bowling Green & one in Chattanooga. In the course of the day, we've already rethought that plan.I am not familiar with Bowling Green but I can't imagine two nights there. I might be missing something. I would think 2 nights in Chattanooga or an extra night in Nashville.
Obviously, our vacation plans can be fluid up until the last minute.
We're spending 3 nights in Memphis & 4 in Nashville. That is pretty much set in stone. Everything else is negotiable.
Now we're thinking we'll drive through downtown Bowling Green just to see it, but not stop. Today DS mentioned he'd like to stop in Atlanta, since it's on our route. We just need to decide on whether we'll do a night in Chattanooga & a night in Atlanta or spend two nights in Atlanta. Decision, decisions....
