We're headed to Nashville for a wedding and had a few questions.

Can anyone recommend a family hotel downtown that might also have *balconies*? We like a balcony for extra space to hang during the baby's nap. Is there a hotel within walking distance to other places?

We've heard we should do the Nashtrash tour and Bluebird Cafe, but anywhere else? We plan to stay a couple days and explore a little.

Would appreciate any ideas, especially for the hotel w/balcony. Thanks!

the sharaton doesn't have balconies, but its right in the middle of downtown. It and the Marriott are pretty much within walking distance of everything. (and nashville is BEAUTIFUL to walk around) but I don't believe either have balconies. If you are willing to sacrifice the balconies, I would definitely recommend either of those.

its really really hot in tennessee lately. we've hit 100+. Just warning you, so you bring adequate clothing.

Thanks, they both sound good. Still hoping for a place w/balconies but will keep these in mind. :goodvibes

Any other ideas anyone?

Also, DN is going with us and thinking it might be a fun place to relocate. Is there a place where lots of 20somethings live?

I can't tell you for sure if they have balconies but you have the Renaissance, Hilton, Doubletree, Holiday Inn are just some of the ones centrally located in downtown.

I'm in my 20s and I love Nashville, you have the lower broadway which is like Tootsies, The Stage, and just all of the music honky tonks that Nashville is known for. There is also Wildhorse Saloon and Jacks BBQ which are good eats. If your into country music, try and take a tour of the Ryman or Country Music Hall of Fame.

The Hilton Suites is my favorite hotel downtown. All the rooms are 2 room suites so you could have some quiet time in the living room while the baby sleeps in the bedroom. They also have 24 hour room service! :thumbsup2

Thanks. What neighborhoods with apartment complexes would you recommend for a 20 something to live? My niece is convinced she'll move there next year but her mom and I would feel much better if we could scope out some places when we're visiting for the wedding. :goodvibes

Love Hiltons too but this trying to watch the budget.

Anyone know anything about the Alexis Suites?

Hip/happening area for that age would be somewhere like Green Hills, the Gulch or Vanderbilt area. Safer, but farther out, would be a more family-oriented suburb like Bellevue (where I live), which as many very nice apartment complexes.

As you begin your search just PM me and I can give you some specific apartment complexes you may want to check out. I have lived in Nashville my whole life and lived in apartments pretty much all throughout my 20s.

Just looked out the office window - neither the Doubletree or Renaissance have balconies. Can't see it but pretty certain Hilton doesn't either.

FYI - Humidity level has dropped and the weather is wonderful right now.

i'm not sure of the nashville area, I live out 30 minutes SE of Nashville in Murfreesboro.

I looked at the hotels around downtown on our walk to lunch and back to the office today and none of the ones I saw have balconies. If you want to be right downtown, the Courtyard by Marriott may be something to check. Since I live here I really have no idea how much any of the hotels are. All I know is the Hermitage Hotel, a restored old hotel, is expensive but beautiful.

Depending on how far your niece wants to drive, you might look into going south toward the Brentwood area - but not the Harding area. I'm old and don't know hip any more but the Brentwood area is a safe part of town.

We love the Nashville Trash tour. Those ladies are hilarious. If you like country music, try the Hall of Fame. Or if you like historic tours, I think our state capitol building is pretty and Andrew Jackson's plantation, the Hermitage, is not far from downtown.

Thank you so much, and thanks everyone. Y'all are so kind!! :goodvibes
Keep the info coming, greatly appreciate it all.

ETA: Most Courtyards do have some rooms with balconies, as thats one of our favorite chains. The one in downtown is said to be a high rise though so probably doesn't, right? I guess I could call them :)

Bellevue, the Vandy area, Green Hills, Brentwood, Franklin (pretty far out but a great area to live!) are all great areas. Mt. Juliet and Hermitage areas are nice too. AVOID the Harding area, Antioch and East Nashville.

Is your niece trying to make it in the music industry?

Yes she's considering it but not for another year or so.

Thanks for the neighborhood ideas! Know of any hotels in, or close, to those areas? We decided not to stay downtown afterall. Appreciate all the help.:goodvibes

My favorite hotel in Brentwood is the Homewood Suites. I commuted to Nashville for years and stayed at least 1 week a month there for a long time and still stay there or the Hilton Suites downtown when I am in town.

There is a Hampton Inn and Suites near Vandy that I know some of the celebs that live out of town stay in when they are in town.

If you need any more info about Nash or the Music Industry, feel free to PM me.
