Hi, I am going to make a booking at Napa Rose :woohoo: but need convincing on whether to book the Chefs Counter or to go for a standard table booking and order whatever we want from the menu.

I suppose I am a little daunted by getting food that I may not be too keen on. I would be dissapointed if I don't get the Tiger Salad, hence why I am thinking of the table and order from the menu, but I know everyone raves over the Chefs Counter and I want an memorable experience.

As we live in Australia, we don't get the chance to go too often, so if I do choose the Chefs Counter, is there any seats which are better to book? I've read people mentioning seat numbers, before but cant remember what they were. There will be two of us.

4 weeks to go :cheer2:

You can always tell the chef that you really want the Tiger salad and I'm sure he'd cater to your desire. I know it's scary because although it has amazing reviews, maybe you will be that one person in 100 to be even a little disappointed. However, I think you should go for it! Since you don't get out here too often, you should do it just to know that you have at least tried it and I'm sure you will love it.

You can order from the menu at the counter. I like the counter because of all the action in the kitchen. It is so much fun to watch. I know I was told certain seats are better than others, but I really don't remember. I do remember that one side you saw more entree's being prepared and the other deserts. I'm sure you can ask when you make your reservations. :tink:

I would still go for Chef's counter, and request the Smiling Tiger Salad as well. However, there's no guarantees that you're going to get it, as I requested the creme brulee for dessert at Chef's Counter but didn't get it :(. If you don't get it, I would probably suggest making it a point to return just for the salad. I think you can eat in the lounge for just that, but I'm not entirely sure.

When you eat at Chef's Counter they ask about your food preferences (and allergies). If you tell them you really like a particular item, its pretty sure you will get it. If not, just ask.

To OP the tiger shrimp salad was one item my daughter was keen on trying. She and husband booked seats 5 and 6 at the chefs counter. She let the chef know of her desire to try the salad and sure enough she got her wish. I think that your wish to have the tiger shrimp salad would not be an issue unless it were not on the regular menu in that case you could not order it even if sitting at table and ordering off menu. My daughter and son-in-law still speak of their experience at the chefs table. They were served different items so they could try each others -- ha not sure daughter was a good sharer although husband did share bites with her :) wink ***** wink.

Have a great time.

Just booked our Chefs Counter at Napa Rose. Our last visit we had reservations (not at the Chefs Counter) but had to unexpectedly cancel. So this time I decided to do Chefs Counter. It will be a surprise for my DH. I am very excited!

OP I was unsure about the Chef's Counter as well. I am probably mid range on the adventurous scale but have read so many great things about it and how you are asked likes/dislikes. Since you won't often have a chance to get back I would probably opt for the Chefs Counter.

Hope you have an amazing trip!! Enjoy :goodvibes

We ate at the Chef's Counter last month, and it was amazing! DH is a total foodie, so I booked it as a surprise to him. DD is fairly adventurous, but doesn't care for most seafood. They accomodated her to the point of bringing her a different amuse bouche than DH & I had.

Also, since DH does like to cook gourmet type food, he asked about a cookbook. We purchased a cookbook that has the history of Napa Rose, Chef Sutton, and the general manager. Chef Sutton even autographed it for DH. It is the perfect keepsake.

Well, I can't remember if it were DW or myself who had the Tiger salad but everything was genuinely delicious. We kinda trusted the chef to prepare whatever meals they fancied. Just let them know if you have any allergies or specific foods that you don't like. We ended eating half/half so it was like having a 10 course meal :)

We have reservations for the Chef's Counter for May 3rd. Neither of us have been to Napa Rose, so we're jumping in with both feet. So excited! I didn't think to ask for certain seats although I have heard people say one side is better for viewing entree's being prepared and the other is more desserts and things. I don't think we'll care too much either way. Buying a cookbook to have signed is a great idea!

Great tip, thanks! :thumbsup2

We just went last week. While the Chef's Table was a big hit to the pocketbook...it was worth every single cent we paid. We went in with an open mind and an empty stomach and were not disappointed. I am positive that if you firmly requested the smiling tiger salad it would be served, as well - we had it during our visit! Just an incredible experience, and possibly our favorite thing we did all trip. Just book it!

I too made a reservation for the chef's counter without ever having been but these posts have been fantastic in cementing my confidence of my decision. Although it isn't my thread, thanks everyone for posting your experiences and to the OP - I really hope you try it!

This thread makes me crave an adults-only trip. :sigh:

You made me giggle, I completely understand. Every once in awhile we will get a sitter and DH and I will go to Disney sans child. :-)

FYI about the cookbook: It's a spiral bound paperback (thick glossy pages) cookbook with about 20 recipes (most of which are available online). I think it cost us $35.

I'm smiling now because you have all helped me in stepping over the line and going for it.
The weird thing is, is that we dine out at top restaurants all the time but when it comes to Disneyland, I am an uber planner and was so worried that having the Tiger Salad in my mind for soooo long and not getting it (on our final night at DL) would leave me so upset lol. :rotfl2:
Ok I'm booking for Monday 6th May, if you are there, please come over and say G'day. :wave2:
