Names on Deed

My daughter and I purchased DVC in November but at the time only put her name on it for the best interest rate. Now we are going to pay it off and she and I would like to add my name to the deed as I am paying for half of it. I know it is doable through a title company but what I'm wondering is if we have to be in Florida to accomplish this? We live in Canada and I am planning a trip in October but my daughter can't come at that time and I really want my blue card! If anyone knows if this can be done from Canada I would really appreciate some guidance. TIA!

It can be done from here in Canada. I have done it. Call DVC and they will give you some phone numbers of companies who can help. Ours was somewhere in California I think. Costs were around $500 CAD I believe.

I also think there may be some cheaper companies people here have used (cheaper than the ones Disney refers) but I don't know the names. Is this just done with a notary?

Pretty sure you are correct. We did it two years ago so I can't recall for sure.

It can be done without having to go to Florida. However, unclear is your timing. I would not attempt the change until after the loan is paid off and the lien for it has been released in the public records. Do not know when you will do the pay-off, but the process of getting finality including formal release of of the mortgage lien can take time. Then making the deed change can take time. then getting a blue card after the change is accepted by DVC can take more time. You might be able to get everything done and a blue card in hand by October but you might not.

I appreciate the heads up. I know the payout will happen pretty soon but I guess I won't get my hopes up too high! But even if not by October it will be way sooner than we originally thought.

You don’t have to go with their expensive suggestion.

My experience with LT Transfers was easy and much cheaper than the company Dvc told my then-husband to use.

You literally can’t do it until the loan is paid.

Even if you don't have a physical card in hand by October, if everything else is done, you should be able to show a screen shot of your blue card (from the Member's website) to get discounts or admission to things like Moonlight Magic or the EPCOT lounge. You will need to have your own log in set up, though, which would happen after the title change.
