Name some things you have done

I'll just choose there to keep my list short, but there are many more...

Was featured on "ABC's World News Tonight" with Peter Jennings back in the late 90s. The story was about my classroom. News people and camera men were in my classroom for several hours!

Was part of what seemed like a "spy movie" while on a train in Italy where a thief stalked my friend and I, snuck in our sitting room while we were sleeping and stole her camera bag, and then had another passenger chase the thief through the moving train to get my friend's camera bag back. After that the thief was still on the train and kept stalking us all night again, waiting for us to fall asleep! :scared1:

Had front row center seats to a Van Halen concert in 1980 where I gave David Lee Roth a sombrero! Years later I won a contest where I got dinner, limo ride and backstage passes to a David Lee Roth concert (post Van Halen).

I had a similar experience in a sleeper car going through Italy. Only we weren't stalked. We were just sitting ducks. Everyone in our car was stolen from but us. Of course we didn't know it until it unfolded. We thought we were the only ones.

A good friend and I were traveling across Europe during a break from our university. My traveling buddy and I had almost nodded off. It was dark and quiet in the car and the movement of the train just lulled us almost to sleep. Out of the blue this guy opened our door, stuck half his body in our car and tried to grab my friend's bag. Well, she was from NYC and was having none of it! She grabbed her umbrella and beat him back! And screamed every name in the book at him, while I slammed the door on his body and held it shut. He didn't know what hit him! It was comical after it was over.

From that point on we were on the defense. It seemed like the same guy kept coming back though. But it was different guys. We were scared and mad as heck! High adrenaline! Anyway, we moved our belongings to be beside the window (not the door) and used them for pillows. We took turns trying to sleep, while one watched and held the door. I took note and had my umbrella handy. After what seemed like a couple of hours of this we took my friend's belt and wove it through the door to lock it. That was the one time we felt safe.

The conductor came along and broke her belt trying to get in. He lectured us on how it was a no-no to lock the doors. We explained the thief, but he didn't care. Not long after that, the train came to an abrupt stop. The thieves used a lit match near a fire alarm. Once the alarm went off for the smoke the trained stopped and I guess they used an emergency exit. We then found out most everyone lost their passports and money. I felt so sorry for them. They did find some of the passports as the thieves dropped them as they were making a run for it.

The thieves definitely had a system. That was an education!

OMG - HiFi Pizza!!! You are my hero for preserving and keeping the pizza! :)

Have you gone to see them at all this time around?

:goodvibes No, the last concert I saw was theirs back in 10th grade, until last summer when I finally saw Bon Jovi for my 35th birthday. No money for that sort of thing anymore. My grandparents entire attic is NKOTB stuff. I have all 10 of the dolls and the stage never opened in the boxes, a few tour jackets, all the programs, tshirts, magazines, etc you could name. They have a 6 foot tall cut out poster stand up cardboard thing that takes up a lot of room. Everytime I go home they ask what they should do with it, but I don't know. But the pizza is for sure the funniest thing we saved.

nothing like some of you but,
-wrestled an alligator in the wild (in hindsight this was a bad idea)
-been in a barbrawl
-been interviewed by Dan Rather
-chased down a mugger at walmart
-a freind and I sailed down the highway with a giant sail while wearing skates
-placed 1st in a carshow
-placed 1st in a paintball tournament
-weathered parts of hurricane Katrina on a bridge looking out to the Gulf
-rode out a hurricane on a 24' boat (it turned at the last minute and we were caught)
-built my house myself
-swam a boat 1 mile back to port
-once got paid to move a 65' yacht 1000miles up river, BEST JOB EVER!

It's amazing that some people think they are boring, but they do in fact have some cool experiences!!! Now I too think I am kind of boring, but here are some things off the top of my head...

1. Opened Magic Kingdom 2 times AND opened Disneyland (got picked 2 times, but gave the second one away so someone else could have the magic!)
2. Opened Epcot character spot and first family on Buzz light year
3. Visited Latvia (stepped inside my great grandparents house)
4. Visited Finland and saw a "homosapien" in a zoo exhibit!!! :lmao: (I kid you not, in Finland, their zoo actually had a human in an exhibit with info just like the other animals)
5. Went to see the Oprah show
6. Met and got a picture with Samantha Brown
7. Met and got a picture with olympic gold medalist Victor Petrenko
8. Married my highschool sweetheart
9. SURVIVED massive blood clots to lungs and one that embolized into my arm
10. earned my high red belt in TaeKwonDo (2 weeks shy of black belt testing, #9 above interfered... but I am determined to get back to it!)
11. climbed on a Mayan ruin
12. Jamaica Mon! (got my hair completely braided too...)
13. won $1000 in the state lottery
14. Did the Polar Bear Plunge
15. gave birth to 2 outstanding kids! (I know not unusual, but darn proud!):thumbsup2
16. Saw the giant sequioas
17. Swam in th gulf of Riga, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Carribean Sea

hmmm, maybe not too boring?:confused3

That's exactly what happened to us!! I was going to college in London as an exchange student for a semester. A friend of mine came there for spring break and we traveled to France and then through France, Switzerland, and Italy on a train. We were also lulled to sleep on the train. A man opened the sliding glass door to our cabin, stuck his body in half-way (crawling on the floor), grabbed my friend's bag and took off!

Luckily for us, there was an older Italian couple in the cabin with us on the other side The man saw what happened, flipped on the lights, started yelling loudly in Italian, and ran out of the cabin to chase the thief down. When the couple got off of the train about 30 min. later (around 1:00am), my friend and I were scared. :scared1: The couple didn't speak English, but the wife knew a few words. She kept making the sign of the cross over us and said, "No sleep. No Sleep." Then she pointed to me and said, "You wake." She pointed to my friend and said, "You sleep." Then she said the same thing in reverse, basically telling us that we could not both sleep at the same time. One person needed to stay awake to be on-watch for the thief. We pulled the shade down over the sliding door to the hallway, but could see at the bottom of the shade where there was a gap. That thief kept walking back and forth down the hall peeking in, waiting for us to fall back asleep. It was sooo creepy!!! :scared1:

There were other items stolen from other people. A man had his briefcase stolen, too. Someone found it in a toilet at the train station where we got off (in Florence).

I think this kind of thing has been going on for a long time. And it's kept hushed so it won't hurt tourism.

That was one leg of our journey too. We went all across Europe. Took a month off to do it. It was an experience.

Wow! You have done amazing historical things, so cool! What's a TSH?

Ok, for "unique" things the two I can think of was one night in college we drove to Minneapolis to bar hop, went to First Avenue and Prince made a surprise appearance and just an hour or so later we were going to another bar and Kirby Puckett was walking out-he was so nice. He stopped and talked to use for about 1/2 hour and we all got his autograph. They won the World Series a few weeks later :thumbsup2

The other one I can think of is crossing the iron curtain in a tour bus with 45 high school kids with border guards with machine guns checking your passports. It was pretty scary for some suburban kids from Minnesota :scared1:. As a side note, I just got a box of my Mom's old stuff from my sister and in that box was a post card I mailed to my Grandma from Hungary talking about this border crossing (and other things).

Other things that might be unique:

-I grew up in a house that was built in the 1840's and is on the National Registrar for Historic Places

-I attended a going away party for Walter Mondale when he was VP-and a few days later saw him at the newspaper office in our town (where he lived) and he remembered me.

--I was one of the first people to use a "new" orthodontic appliance to fix my jaw and was written up in a bunch of dentist magazines and my "mouth" was presented at a dental conference (the before and after molds) :lmao:

Had a TSH level of 95, which my Mayo Clinic doctors told me they had never seen before-not something you want to hear :0

Pretty exciting...:lmao:

Nothing too exciting here either, but here are a few things...

Went to 5 elementary schools, 2 different Jr. High's and 2 different High Schools. No, I did not come from a military family.

Never lived longer than 2 1/2 years in one place until the house I live in now
(14 years in May).

Survived the '72 Flood in Rapid City, SD. My Grandparents lost their home and my Aunt lost her home and motel business. A friend of ours lost both parents and another friend's Mom was kept alive during the flood by a german shepard she was boarding at her house, he held her head above water when her body became trapped in a fence. Some of my childhood things still have flood mud on them to this day.

Came down with Hepatitus after the flood, they believe I got it from drinking bad water. Spent the rest of the summer with a yellow hue.

Grew up in a house with a half-brother, step-brother, half/step-brother and foster brother. I was the only girl. (the half/step brother is my step brother's half brother, but was raised by my step-dad even though they weren't actually related... did ya get that? ;) ) I usually had to draw out a family chart to explain my family.

Rolled my car, and walked away with minor injuries. Literally walked away, I was in the country and had to walk for help.

Had 2 C-sections 5 months apart.

Broke my knee in a Smithsonian museum in Washington DC.

I have taken each of my girls on a trip to Disney World with just the 2 of us, youngest DD in 2004 when she was 10 and oldest DD earlier this month when she was 25.

Lived in South Dakota my entire life.

OMG! I came across a couple pictures today:

My boyfriend at the time and I got kicked out of a Cancun hotel.

No, we didn't trash it, we just didn't pay attention to the tour guide who said not to go to this particular one.

Went to 5 elementary schools, 2 different Jr. High's and 2 different High Schools. No, I did not come from a military family.

I lived in the same house for 8 years and went to 2 different elementary schools, two different junior highs and three different high schools. :confused3

I have (among other things):

Been in a TV movie (at 13).
Sat in the front row at a Bruce Springsteen concert.
Had a C-section.
Been to the top of the World Trade Center.
Been bumped to First Class on a trans-atlantic flight.
Skied in the Alps.
Been to London twice.
Been to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Seen the Sistine Chapel.
Been to Oktoberfest in Munich.
Climbed a fence and trespassed onto a Soviet military base that had been recently abandoned.
Attended college (and graduated with honors) from one of the most truly beautiful colleges in the US.
Married my soul mate and best friend.
Had a mud wrap (at a spa).

* am the second daughter of the second daughter of the second daughter (but it stops here - I had a son)
* cousin to quintuplets
* went skydiving (once)
* went white water rafting (once)
* took 5 pets through quarantine and moved to the Big Island
* saw dolphins mating (thought they were killing eachother) on a dive
* dove "with" dolphins, turtles, nurse sharks (just because they are laying in a row, doesn't mean they are ALL sleeping), eels of all kinds
* spent my nights being woken up by humpbacks off the lanai all season long (not something I did, though), with the percussion shaking the house
* took part in the bussing meant to desegregate public schools (but I'm white, was bussed to an all-white school)
* had my car attacked by wild turkeys with angry get blue faces arguing over a girl turkey
* fell out of a tree on my face at age 7 (broken nose, jaw still crooked hee hee)
* had a son allergic to the DPT vaccine (before they "knew" what they know today) and they continued to vaccinate (and I ALLOWED it - didn't know better) just half doses twice as often. And he lived. And he's wonderful :)
* mother-in-law to an actress (who I'm trying to convince to apply as WDW character so we can all move there), who is the sister of Lexi of Jurrassic Park, etc
* went scuba diving at Neil Young's house
* saw volcano erupting (more like oozing)
* danced on Crete
* got offered job on Crete (couldn't take it, had to come home)
* have a sister who puked on Romper Room (on miss sue I think her name was?)
* saw Vincent D'nofrio and his kids (L and O: Criminal Intent) at WDW last time

well I guess most of these are not accomplishment but rather tidbits that make me happy (well, not the tree thing or the DPT thing :lmao:)

WOW!!! You guys have some amazing list! Mine are pretty boring in comparison but here goes...

1. Have seen Madonna in concert twice, Price twice, Springsteen and Bon Jovi 3 times each and Jimmy Buffet and DMB more times than I can count.

2. Vacationed at a "clothing optional" resort in Jamaica.

3. Was supposed to fly home from aforementioned "clothing optional" resort on 9/12/2001 and was stuck in Jamaica for almost a week.:headache:

4. Was born and raised in the same town I currently live in but have visited 21 states and 9 other countries.

5. Met my husband when I was set up on blind date...with his brother!

6. When my water broke at 34 weeks I refused to accept I was in labor and insisted I had just wet my pants (cause that's way better right?:sad2:)

7. Met and hung out Vince Neil while on vacation in Jamaica (different trip). He sang Home Sweet Home one night in an almost empty piano bar.

8. Cried like a baby the first time my daughter visited MK. Remembering the look on her face upon seeing the castle for the first time still makes me a little teary.

I've written a few things on this thread but not a list, so here goes:

- Studied for a short session at Manchester University. Thieves were running amok at the University. Inside job. Just about everyone was stolen from. I was sleeping and walking about with my money belt on! It was so bad the University moved us to a nice hotel.

- Avoided mad cow disease while in Europe. :upsidedow It was big news at the time. I became a vegetarian during that trip.

- Rode the Chunnel Train/Eurostar.

- Walked about the Eiffel Tower and took a double decker bus tour around London.

- Stayed in a Youth Hostel in London. We had a core group we traveled with so we all had one room. The bathroom/shower situation in the hallway was interesting.

- Drank awful beer in some pubs in London. Sang songs from the U.S. '70s time frame with everyone at the pubs. Our older songs were really popular there. It was like the twilight zone. But fun.

- Danced at a night club that had a large banner outside that read, "Bomb Us". It was against my better judgment.

- Shopped at a strip sort of mall that had a building with gaping hole from bombing. It did have a tarp over it, but the wind whipped it about. Weird everyone walking amongst it. Still enjoyed street entertainers.

- Toured Barcelona, Spain. Enjoyed the street vendors and spray painted human statues.

- Vacationed in Stiges, Spain great beach (but topless that was a surprise). We chose it because it was so close to Barcelona. Played pick up volleyball with some kids on the beach at sunset. I am not very fluent in Spanish, and they couldn't speak English, but we all had a good time. Lots of smiles. Had some wonderful sangria.

- Toured the Vatican. Bought St. Christopher charms for everyone at home. Put Holy water on all of them. The water was in a basin that was perched very high. After I was done, curiosity got the better of me and I stood tippy toe to take a look at the Holy water. It had all sorts of sediment and it looked to be moldy. :crazy2: Who would've thought?? I warned everyone to wash their hands after handling the charms, but if they got sick they were blessed.

- Thwarted thieves on our cross country train ride.

- Hydroplaned and spun in many circles on the interstate with my best friend and lived. I think it had something to do with a large hauling truck. I don't know. Didn't crash into anything. Came to a full stop, engine off in the opposite direction on the shoulder of the road. We still marvel at that to this day. Engine started fine afterwards.

- Went sky diving one time

- Went para sailing in the Bahamas.

Stood on the edge of a live volcano (off the shores of New Zealand)
Was at the births of three of my four grandchildren (and just missed the other one!)
Breastfed all four of my children until they weaned themselves
Raised my kids as a single mom
Visited Disney World and Disneyland in the same week
Was present for the births of my horse's two foals
Have written or co-written fourteen books and counting (have a book proposal out with an agent right now)
Bought a house on my own
Fell down the basement stairs and broke my ankle in three places
Put my foot in the Atlantic Ocean (Prince Edward Island) then three months later put my foot in the Pacific Ocean (Vancouver)

I'm not really very adventurous, am I?

Teresa

I've been to Europe (France, Spain)
I've been to Canada
I have a Masters Degree
I've seen Jerry Seinfeld

short list lol

Love this thread!

I have:

Lived in 7 different states - by the time I was 13.

Flown to Orlando, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco and home the same day (individual trips....not all those cities in a single day). There are some benefits to working for an airline! The ability to get there is one. The ability to pay for a hotel is not. :rotfl:

I have worked for American Airlines since a few days after I turned 18. That'll be 25 years this summer!

Got married when I was 19, he was 21. Our 23rd wedding anniversary is next month. And he's still cute! ;)

I am 4th generation native Texan. :thumbsup2

On one of my day trips to Washington DC we encountered a KKK march. Very interesting. More interesting was the counter march!!

Enrolled in college classes for the 1st time at age 41. This is not for the faint of heart.

Attended Evensong at St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

Given birth naturally to two wonderful girls, both times with no medication/anesthesia (my choice - I was too afraid of the big needle!).

Survived the offer for a private tour back into the mountains of Jamaica that my father-in-law foolishly agreed to (and we foolishly went along with). We got to see some things that most tourists don't get to see, but when they "guides" 3 buddies joined us, and then when they wanted to talk money it got scary. That could have gone really badly.

Was supposed to take a trip to Disney World at the beginning of Oct 2001. DH didn't want to fly so soon after 9/11, so we went to San Antonio instead. :sad2:
