Name some things you have done

Loving this thread, OP. I agree it's one of the best on the DIS.

I'm surprised. He he's got a nice smiley face. I would've thought he was nice.
Goes to show, you never know.

It was very busy as his was the third tour bus in a row that night. We were near several major colleges and would often get team buses too. Evidently I wasn't paying him the appropriate homage as he said to me "Don't you know who I am?" I didn't...and that was the WRONG thing to say to me in any event. I proceeded to ignore him and he left me a quarter for a tip. Some kids asked him for his autograph and he refused. He didn't earn any fans that night.

On the other hand, the crazy rockers were polite and practically THREW money at the waitresses. I think they understood how hard we had it. Twisted Sister was the best. You should have seen the looks on those truckers' faces when Dee Snider walked in.

Hmmm, let me see...

* I've lived on four different continents (North America, South America, Asia and Australia)

* I've flown alone from Perth, Australia to Ottawa, Canada with a 6 month old and a 2 year old (26 hours flying time)

* I've crossed the arctic circle while travelling in an outboard motor boat on the Mackenzie River

* I've been to Bali and Cebu

* I was evacuated from Jakarta by my embassy when Suharto's government fell.

* I've swam in every ocean in the world (including the Arctic :hyper:)

* I saw a hammerhead shark and a black tip reef shark while snorkeling in the Indian Ocean (on different occasions)

* I spent six weeks in the Amazon rain forest

* I've eaten snake, guinea pig, pig's brains and dog

* I've experienced an 8.8 magnitude earthquake (and dozens over 6, all in the past year)

Ugh to the guinea pig. I almost jumped the curb on the other side of the street the first time I drove. I was also robbed while working solo, but thank God, no weapon involved.

This being hit by a car: that wasn't in Chapel Hill NC in the late 80s was it:rolleyes1

Nope, in CT a couple of days after the massive blizzard of '78. Pickup truck came around from behind a huge snowbank, he didn't see me, I didn't see him. Dad watched the whole thing in his rearview mirror :sad1:

:woohoo: You win having the list with the most cool things! :worship: So many really neat experiences! I've done the Amazon Rain forest too, but only 4 days.

-Hit a pedestrian with my car (not my fault; she ran out in front of me)
-am a third generation Gold Award Girl Scout
-performed onstage with a stand up comedian

I feel very boring after trying to come up with some unique things about me.[/QUOTE]

Me too! There really isn't anything I can think of that is unique about me LOL
WHICH, is fine with me.

Reading this thread is wonderful. I think those that have wonderful experiences, must "put themselves out there", which I don't do or care to do.

The only unique thing I can think of is when my dh and I were dating, he was/is friends with someone who had a father that was the senior sound enginer for SLN. This was the time when Eddie Murphy was on. We would go often and ALWAYS hung out backstage and ate with the group.

On one Christmas show, they had the Honeydrippers (Robert Plant, Paul Schaeffer and I don't know who else).
We (I) hung out with Robert Plant and then went out to the after party show with them and SNL, that was GREAT although I really can't remember too much LOL

I spoke to Fergie (Sarah Furgerson) a few times on her cell phone when I worked in the city. We handled her personal insurance.
It was during the time right after she was the WW spokesperson, I think.

Otherwise, I am happily married for over 20 years, 2 kids, 2 cars, own a home and 3 timeshares.

Thanks...although some of the experiences weren't very pleasant, they really did shape who I turned out to be!

The Amazon was one of my few experiences that really felt like I thought it would. Absolutely beautiful, exotic, and oftentimes terrifying ;).

I would be scared of creepy crawlies and animals with big sharp teeth! And I scream and jump about like a little girl when something brushes against me. I don't think I would last in that environment. :upsidedow

What were some of the things you came across?

I don't have much, but....

--I did a radio commercial.

--I have birthed 5 children; 4 boys and 1 girl.

--I am a published author.

--I was hired to work at foot locker when I was only 12.

This is a fun thread! I've:

- moved to a different continent without a job or place to stay lined up when I got there... only a 2 night hostel stay. :lmao:
- ran The Goofy at WDW - the WDW half marathon and marathon on consecutive days... that's 39.3 miles in 2 days!
- ran a half marathon at 8 months pregnant - now this I DO NOT recommend. Learn from my stubborn stupidity, folks.
- danced on the bar in a club in Ios in Greece.
- had the worst case of mono that my doctor had ever seen. (this is not connected to the previous point :lmao:)
- hiked to the top of an Alp in Slovenia.

Well...

I testified in a criminal case when I was eleven.

A former crown prince of Afghanistan (Mostafa, grandson of the exiled king), once got me drunk on Sambuka. He took me on my first ever bar crawl! He also taught me to play chess. I was seventeen.

I got caught up in a bank robbery, when I was nineteen. I stuffed all my money up my sleeve when the robbers weren't looking, as I wasn't prepared to lose the entire summer's wages, which I'd gone to the bank to deposit. (The army paid us in cash, back in those days!)

I've been working hard on leading the most boringly ordinary life I possibly can since then. I've been reasonably successful, I think. :thumbsup2 My children don't believe me when I tell then I know how to handle a rifle.

This is fun! I don't think I have anything all that cool, but here goes:

- Competed in a figure skating competition where one of my judge was Ryan Bradley (a top US men skater who is about to win nationals). He placed me in last place, but oh well, still a cool story!

- Saw New Kids on the Block from the last row in 1990, and the FRONT row in 2009! My best friend who saw them with me in 1990 will be doing VIP at a concert this July and will get to meet them!

- Speaking of figure skating, I took up the sport at the age of 17, and have competed at US Adult Nationals twice, making the final medal round at one of them

- Recently watched my 6-year-old daughter skate her first program to music, and that meant more to me than anything I've accomplished in my own skating

- Performed in "A Christmas Carol" this year with my 6 & 2 year old daughters. So much fun! :)

This has been really interesting to read the various experiences of the everyone here.

Let's see if I can add anything....

1) Have coached 2 All-American track athletes; one of whom had competed in the Olympic Trials
2) Have a Master's degree
3) Several times went to North Dakota for vacation as a kid-my mom was from North Dakota
4) Watched my cousin play with her country western band several times-the Grammy that they won was hanging in my aunt's basement-she no longer is with the group
5) Been to WDW 5 times with my wife-the next time I will be on a solo trip because she is no longer with us-and try to find her memorial cards that my brother hid throughout the parks

Ok, for "unique" things the two I can think of was one night in college we drove to Minneapolis to bar hop, went to First Avenue and Prince made a surprise appearance and just an hour or so later we were going to another bar and Kirby Puckett was walking out-he was so nice. He stopped and talked to use for about 1/2 hour and we all got his autograph. They won the World Series a few weeks later :thumbsup2

The other one I can think of is crossing the iron curtain in a tour bus with 45 high school kids with border guards with machine guns checking your passports. It was pretty scary for some suburban kids from Minnesota :scared1:. As a side note, I just got a box of my Mom's old stuff from my sister and in that box was a post card I mailed to my Grandma from Hungary talking about this border crossing (and other things).

Other things that might be unique:

-I grew up in a house that was built in the 1840's and is on the National Registrar for Historic Places

-I attended a going away party for Walter Mondale when he was VP-and a few days later saw him at the newspaper office in our town (where he lived) and he remembered me.

--I was one of the first people to use a "new" orthodontic appliance to fix my jaw and was written up in a bunch of dentist magazines and my "mouth" was presented at a dental conference (the before and after molds) :lmao:

Had a TSH level of 95, which my Mayo Clinic doctors told me they had never seen before-not something you want to hear :0

Pretty exciting...:lmao:

1. Had breast cancer at age 31. Still here 27 year later. :goodvibes
2. Had DD via artificial insemination while not married. Gasp!
3. Had DD by c-section and raised a wonderful young lady!
4. Talked to Jon Bonjovi on an airplane (didn't know who he was at the time).
5. Designed multimillion dollar software systems.
6. Retired (the first time) at age 52.
7. Moved to Florida to live ten minutes from WDW.
8. Worked for the Disney Florist.
9. Owned my own gift basket business.
10. Taught school (high school/middle school English).
11. Wrote several children's books.
12. Was an extra in several Disney B-rolls.

I've packed up house and moved 3 times... In 3 years.

I've walked on the wings of HUGE airliners. (During FA evacuations training) To ME, it was really neat!

I've watched Fourth of July fireworks from 35,000 feet from Michigan to Atlanta. THAT was NEAT.

I've watched the most beautiful blue sunrises and the most stunning red sunsets from the window of an airplane... On the same day... Many times. It's like waking up with Earth!

I visited Graceland by chance during Elvis Week. Truly a sight.

I can't think of any more...

What were some of the things you came across?

BIG spiders, poisonous snakes, alligators, whirlpools and hallucinations from the mefloquine (although probably the lesser of two evils since two of my travel companions came down with malaria). Most dangerous of all, though, were the two-legged sharks (I was a 20-year-old girl at the time;) )

I couldn't handle that adventure even now, much less 20. You have my admiration!

I think you're my new hero. :flower3:

Spent three weeks in England on a student exchange.

Dressed up like Vampire Willow (from Buffy) at DragonCon.

Designed a winning logo for a Dave Matthews Band hat contest.
