Which would you choose???

  • Landon Michael

  • Lakin (pronounced Lake-in) Michael

  • Don't care for either one!

I voted for neither but if I had to choose one I would choose Landon. My theory is that if you have to put a pronunciation guide with a name it is a good clue you shouldn't use it because it is going to cause problems his entire life.

I know a couple Landons and they are snotty boys so that is why I don't like the name. Unique names are so popular that the more traditional names are uncommon. We have a Michael and in his 14 years of life has never had another Michael in a class at school, sports team, etc. There are 175 kids in his marching band this year and he is the only Michael.

I don't think you should worry about everyone's opinion. No matter what name you decide, there will always be people who don't like it. Just go with what you like.

I agree. I know of a couple who refused to tell anyone what they were naming their baby, b/c they didn't want to have to deal with people not liking it. So, they just opted to wait until the baby was born to tell everyone the name. That way, everybody was too busy saying, "Awwwww! Look at the baby!" to say, "Wow...what an...interesting name."

We did the same thing....didn't tell anyone Brady's name just to avoid the comments. Luckily most people seems to like his first name, but we get a lot of strange looks for his middle name (Kennedy). We were coming down to the wire and we didn't like anything, then I saw Kennedy and said we can live with that.....I mean, most people don't use middle names that often anyway.

Wow, that is amazing. My DS is 20yo and his name is Michael Patrick. He went to a private catholic elementary school and private catholic high school AND it was packed w/Michaels. They had Michael Edward, Michael Thomas, Michael Matthew..and on and on...to the point when they would come to our house to play we would all call them with their first name and last initial..for instance Michael R. do you want peanut butter or bologna...etc...!!!

Golfgal: Your son is certainly lucky!!! But the bottomline: I just absolutely, undeniably LOVE  the name Michael and at our house I call him "Mikey-do" and my DH has ALWAYS called him Patrick SINCE birth!!!

Same here. Well, we didn't wait till birth, we waited till we found out they were boys then we announced their official names. We didn't want anyone's 2-cents on our name choices. lol

I wouldn't personally choose either of them, but it's not my baby sooooooo out of the two I'd go with Landon. First time I ever heard that name was in the movie "A Walk to Remember", good movie, good character = good name.

Just want to add that our youngest, Michael, has also never had a Michael with him in class, soccer, tball, scouts, etc. He is 10. I don't think Michael has ever left the top 50 names but there just aren't any common names around us. The trendy names and traditional "family" names are big here. Michael goes to school with a Peter who is actually Peter Anthony ______, the 5th.

When choosing a name you need to look at what the school kids can do with it and what it rhymes with.

Whatcha makin' Lakin?
Whatcha bakin' Lakin?
Whatcha takin' Lakin?
Fakin' Lakin.
Quakin' Lakin.
Wakin' Lakin.

There are just way too many opportunites here to pick on this name. Landon seems not to lend itself so easily to these games.

I really like Landon... It's pretty and unique - but it's not too far out there.. And I love Michael as a middle name.. It was supposed to be my middle name!(My mom was positive I was going to be a boy - but didn't want to find out for sure.. so she had the name Anthony Michael picked out.. so when I popped out princess: I was nameless for a day x_X)

I don't like either one, but if I had to pick I guess it would be Landon.

I actually have a really funny sort of story about names. When I had my first DS I really wanted to name him Michael and my DH refused because of some bully that beat him up when he was really young and the bully's name was Michael so NO MICHAEL at our house. :furious:

But I just so loved the name. #1 was named Christopher (1982). Pregnant with DS #2 (1985) and we start in again deciding names etc etc and it was going to be Evan, or Ian, or Brandon. So then the middle name and I now really want Michael AGAIN. DH has calmed down with the Michael issues. And we decide on Brandon Michael.

Now backing up a bit, my best best friend in the whole world is pregnant same time with #1...her boys name will be Michael...she has a girl, Julie (1982)...pregnant again with #2 (1985)...her boys name again will be Michael. She is due two months after me.

She calls me the night before I am due to have my DS has it was a scheduled C-Section. She asks the name. I tell her Brandon. She is fine with that (she better be).

Next morning I have DS @9am. DH is standing there, looks at DS and then me and says..."He is definitely a Michael"...I am so elated. YEAH..his first name will be Michael and DH is all over his ISSUES w/the name. (So no Brandon)!

It gets all out there that I have named DS Michael, DGF calls the room, FIRST THING OUT OF HER MOUTH..."You named him Michael, you told me Brandon, I want Michael for my son"...YIKES...she is mad!!! Well too bad!!!

Rambling on and finishing this up....DGF two months later has a GIRL and not a boy and names her Jamie. AND THE BIGGEST THING OF ALL...She is living in MA and I am living in Cherry Hill, NJ....so what is the big deal if we had had two boys and they were both Michael...sheesh...!!!

I just wanted to tell OP, if you decide on a name and tell everyone and then change it, allot people get confused. My whole family thought Brandon as we told them and the one DGF was angry...it was weird having to spend the next week explaining what ULTIMATELY was ours and only our decision to everyone!!!

I thank everyday that we went with Michael (Patrick) because despite how angry DGF was, she had a GIRL!!!
