Name help once more!

Which would you choose???

  • Landon Michael

  • Lakin (pronounced Lake-in) Michael

  • Don't care for either one!

I voted for neither, but if there had only been two choices, I would have chosen Landon. That name is not all that uncommon, but I don't care for Lakin. That sounds like a girl's name to me. Maybe if it were just Lake, it would sound more manly.

I only gave my opinion because you asked. :) I don't think you should worry about everyone's opinion. No matter what name you decide, there will always be people who don't like it. Just go with what you like.

I named my youngest DD Ainslee. There are plenty of people who don't like it, but I don't care. I still love it! :goodvibes

If you and your DH like it go for it....don’t let the idea that people won’t like it turn you off to the name...

My two cents - work in a school unusual names for boy are a big hindrance. Lake-in is just too weird, never heard it before the kid will be tortured. Landon is a little bit better, I think he could live with that name. He'll hate you for it until maybe he is 30ish, then maybe he'll like that it is different.

Landon ranked 61 for boys born in 2005. Not exactly unusual.

I voted for Landon. Lakin is kinda girly but not bad, I suppose.
People will mispronounce it all the time and call him "Lack-in"...

The only Lakin I know is a girl.

Landon Michael makes me think of Pa on Little House on the Prairie :guilty:

If we're playing "death is not an option" I guess I'll take Landon, but I'm honestly not wild about either.

I would have pronounced the other Lah-keen. I really don't care for it.

I think we all must be a part of the unusual name generation. Everyone I know (cousins and friends) that have had kids in the past few years NONE of them are named traditional names. Maybe it's rebelling against when there was 5 Jake's and 6 Melissa's in every classroom? :teeth:

I know what you mean. I grew up with 7 Karens in one class. The teacher gave us a # at the beginning of the year and we were called by it. I didn't remember my name, until I moved away, and by that time I was in High School. ::yes::

I still believe that when you box a child into a name (and as you pointed out), there are all kinds of ways of making fun of them. I think there are a lot of semi-traditional names and pseudo-traditional names out there already. Why add to the mushpile, if you don't have to. Made up name stereotype a child and can be sometimes wind up being harmful. I love kids and I just don't want to see one hurt because of their name. It sounds like you don't want them to be harmed either.:scratchin

Voted neither, sorry. Of course, name him what you want, lol. But since you asked....

I knew the pronunciation of Lakin immediately because it was a very common last name where I grew up. Ironically, all the Lakins in my school were girls. So I do associate it with girls but only because of my history. I don't think there is anything feminine-sounding about it.

Since you seem to like the "in", "an" sound at the end of names, how about Evan? That flows well with Michael and sounds good with Ethan. If you want an "L" name, I've always like Luke or Lucas which also sounds good with Michael.

I agree with some of the other posters...Landon Michael is going to automatically be associated with Little House on the Prairie..but if you want your child to be associated with an actor that's ok. --heck, last year we had a 1st grader at my school named "Courtney Cox". :confused3

Don't worry about the Michael Landon connection--how often do we go by our first and middle name? I voted for Landon. Not because I would name my child that, but because it's not overused (I don't think it is, at least), it's not going to be mispronounced, not used as a girls name, and I like it better than the alternative.

I chose Lakin but what really matters is what the parents like! I find that (for me) naming boys is so much more difficult than naming girls!

I also am not too fond of either name though in the poll I did pick Landon as I did want to point out which one I preferred of the two.

When we chose names for our 3 boys the things we took into consideration were: that they not be TOO popular; that WE loved the name; that there would be NO reason for teasing (a tad bit more important when you're talking about boy names over girl name choices, IMHO); that the name flowed with our last name; that the initials (all 3 or 4; 1st with last, etc.) did not spell/imply anything embarassing, etc.

Our choices have all been :thumbsup2 for us in the above noted situations. The only thing is that NOW some of our choices have become soooo popular. We have: Tyler (21yrs old), Jesse (18yrs) and Brett (10yrs).

Don't like Lakin at all.

Landon is better but nothing that would make my top 100.

But it really doesn't matter what some chick in Alabama thinks, ya know? I find that no matter how queer or awful the name, if the person is cool, I like 'em! :thumbsup2

Case in point....my husband's name is Melad. :rolleyes1

Name your sweet boy whatever you want. Then raise him to be a hell of a man and no one will care what the heck his name is! :)

I have a Jesse 23 and a Tyler 15 also,
my other two are girls so no Brett. LOL
They are Kristi 16 & Melinda 20 Just incase you were wondering. :teeth:

Oh by the way I vote with Landon, not sure about the Micheal with it but I do like Landon. It doesn't matter what you name you give your children if the kids want to tease them they will find something. I'm sure my Mom never thought that I would be called Gina Weiner growning up they even shortened it to just wein after awhile. Oh well you never know. :confused3

I love the name Landon! I also wouldn't worry about him being compared to Michael Landon, because as another poster said, how many of us are called by our first and middle names.

I don't care for the name Lakin. I would also worry about kids calling him Lack-in. Life is hard enough for kids without giving them a name that other kids might be able to twist around and make fun of. But, this is coming from a Dana that was called Dino (as in fred flinstone's dog) throughout elementary school LOL LOL LOL
