Ok so we have changed our minds 100 times and we have got to settle on something for this little guy or he is going to be born with no name..lol

We have it down to 2 now. His middle name will be Michael after dh but for the first name we are torn between Landon and Lakin. I know many do not like Lakin (pronounced Lake-in) since it is kinda uncommon but we have really started liking it. Do you think it is one that would catch on and people would start to like it later on? Or would you go with Landon even though it seems to be getting really popular? Help me choose!!! :hourglass :teeth:

Dont love either but Landon goes with Ethan better. Plus Lakin will always be mis-pronounced. Everyone will call him lack-in.

If you and your DH like it go for it....don’t let the idea that people won’t like it turn you off to the name...

I chose Landon Michael. I think Lakin is a cool name, but I agree with the pp who said that it will always be mispronounced...

My two cents - work in a school unusual names for boy are a big hindrance. Lake-in is just too weird, never heard it before the kid will be tortured. Landon is a little bit better, I think he could live with that name. He'll hate you for it until maybe he is 30ish, then maybe he'll like that it is different.

I don't like either but prefer Landon over Lakin. With Lakin you're going to have to address him being teased, dealing with people mispronouncing his name constantly, and never be able to find personalized items with his name on it. Just a few weeks back there was a there was a thread where several people with uncommon names expressed dismay over no personalized items for them growing up.

My son's best friend's mom babysits for Lakin and Landon, how weird is that. They are two very very blond headed brothers. I personally love Lakin but I like more non traditional names.

How about Michael Landon!

:rotfl: :thumbsup2

As a teacher, I see too many "unusual" names. The kids are confused, the teachers are confused and everyone is confused. I'm blonde, so I'm confused already.

I really implore you to consider a more traditional name because it's tough enough to hang in there, and tougher with a "unique" name. There are enough "unique" and unusual names already. Your child has to live with the name you give him for the rest of his life. Don't you want him to like you? :confused3

I don't care for either one at all ;)

However, I think Lakin sounds more feminine, so I would go with Landon. I also think Landon sounds better with Ethan.

I like Landon the best. It reminds me of the guy Landon off of the Real World and he was hot. ;) :lmao: I agree he will get made fun of in school with Lakin (but almost everyone is at some point or another). I see a mean "What are you lakin (lack-in)?" comments from the bullies in high school.

i don't know-i just keep thinking with 'landon' he'll end up being called 'london' by the other kids (seems like esp. with younger kids if another has an unusual name that sounds like another more familiar-the kids just naturaly revert to using the name/word thats familiar to them-even with not such unusual names. marissa becomes melissa, nico becomes nick, i've even heard younger ones insist their friend 'kaitlin's' name was 'kitten'.

i just get a gut feeling that a 'landon' is going to have to get pretty tolerant of hearing 'i see landon/london, i see france, i see.....'

I think we all must be a part of the unusual name generation. Everyone I know (cousins and friends) that have had kids in the past few years NONE of them are named traditional names. Maybe it's rebelling against when there was 5 Jake's and 6 Melissa's in every classroom? :teeth:

I would have to go with Landon of the two you list. I like the name Lakin, and I know several people with that name (various spellings). However, all of the Lakins I know are girls. I just don't see Lakin as a boy's name. Sorry!

I know several girls around here named Laken. I may be spelling it wrong but it's not that unusual and I've only heard it as a girl's name.

Also I live in a town of about 4000 and I know boys named Landon. I don't think it's an unusual name either.

I did not pick either. The first one is the opposite of Pa's real name in Little House (so could cause him teasing in the future) and the second I just don't like.

Of coarse I do. :teeth:

Maybe some of you have not heard the name Landon yet but trust me you will. ;) It has become VERY common lately and that was actually my problem with it is that by the time he was in school there would be 10 other Landon's around him. I am unsure why some think he would be picked on for Landon?? :confused3 I can understand not being sure about Lakin since it is more uncommon which is why I am so leary of using it b/c I normally like common names but don't want this baby to have one as popular as Ethan though. I am just shocked I guess that people think Landon is uncommon or would be made fun of for..lol

Anyways, I am rambling. Thanks for the opinions, keep them comming. :goodvibes

I'm not a fan of new and trendy names. All four of my boys have traditional names..old with lots of history behind them-I love that! But I'm glad that there are others who DO like new, trendier names..variety is good. :) If I had to pick one of those two, most definitely Landon. (Although my first thought was Michael Landon. lol) I agree with the others, Lakin would constantly be mispronounced. Good luck! I know how tricky the name game can be.

I am not a fan of trendy names either....

My DS' names: (so borrrring I know BUT no one messes them UP)

Christopher Brett and Michael Patrick...EASY & EASY :thumbsup2

Michael Landon...naa too much like the actor

Lakin...too girlishy...I know that is becoming more and more for girls spelled with E (LakEn)

If you really want something to go with ETHAN how about ALLEN.... :lmao:
(sorry OP, I couldn't resist)

I voted no on both!!!! JMHO!!!
