It is not useful to overlay your scenario onto the events of nine years ago and assume that conditions will never change.
They have'nt changed yet
That's the way multiple guns in the hands of multiple marginally trained people exchanging fire with numerous bad guys 'work'.
I stated, terrorists would find a much harder time getting a permit than a boxcutter
Any solution that doesn't offer a better outcome should be automtically discarded.
We are not dealing with 'one specific type of terrorist'. We are dealing with any future terrorist, criminal, or mentally deranged person.
You are correct. We could go along way to help ourselves by carefully screening people with names like Nidal Malik Hasan before they get on planes.
No. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."A conceal carry permit is issued as a right protected by the second admendment as a citizen of the US.
By default, none of these terrorists could even apply.
When was the last time you heard of an American hijacking or attempting to blow up an airplane?
Which would only make them change their names to Joe Shrubber.
Sadly, that's not true. Even if it were, it's not like we could only protect ourselves against one group. Would you have us wait until someone else pulls off a successful attack before we plan to stop them?We are indeed dealing with one type of terrrorist now, thank goodness
I disagree. They choose the planes because they are a controlled environment and can cause a lot of damage without a lot of "baggage" in terms of carrying supplies. A plane is like a missle, it doesn't just kill people on board, but it can also be pointed in a direction and hit something else.
Additionally a plane has a large volume of people in a small space, completing a similar event else where, with the same casualty count would require more supplies (bombs, etc.) and would be harder to stay under the radar.
And we don't track name changes here?
I agree completely, I just add to that the fact that it is unlikely they can be stopped aboard a plane.
Do you think they only recruit after people with less then common names, please do not tell me your that ignorant?
Sigh... no. It's because they're attacking the United States. They hate us.shrubber said:I believe you are missing the point. Why is it that these Jihadists have specifically chosen our airliners to carry out these attacks? It is precisely because they know that no one on the plane is able to defend themselves.
That is not correct. The Supreme Court has found that non-citizens within the US do have constitutional protections.Apart from that, however, is that citizens of other countries entering this country from anywhere else are not granted or subject to the same rights that our Bill of Rights allows us.
Not sure, again, where you're getting your information.shrubber said:The effort to arm pilots has been defunded, the chances of their being an air marshall aboard your flight are miniscule at best.
No. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Nothing about concealed. Frankly, nothing about the necessity of the right to keep and bear arms NOT in relation to a well regulated Militia.

It might serve you to take a glance at the Equal Protections clause of the 14th amendment.
Who also went by the name of Abdul Raheem
You mean Abdul Raheem
You don't think for a moment that the terrorists won't change tacticts? You don't think they'll start recruting people with names like John Smith that look like someone that grew up in an Iowa corn field?
Honestly, put a little thought into this. Improving the screening to only target those who look/sound/act like people that have attacked or attempted to attack us in the past is EXTREMLY short sighted.
