You are correct. We could go along way to help ourselves by carefully screening people with names like Nidal Malik Hasan before they get on planes.
Which would only make them change their names to Joe Shrubber.

It is not useful to overlay your scenario onto the events of nine years ago and assume that conditions will never change.

They have'nt changed yet
That's the way multiple guns in the hands of multiple marginally trained people exchanging fire with numerous bad guys 'work'.
I stated, terrorists would find a much harder time getting a permit than a boxcutter
Any solution that doesn't offer a better outcome should be automtically discarded.
We are not dealing with 'one specific type of terrorist'. We are dealing with any future terrorist, criminal, or mentally deranged person.

We are indeed dealing with one type of terrrorist now, thank goodness

Do you think they only recruit after people with less then common names, please do not tell me your that ignorant?

A conceal carry permit is issued as a right protected by the second admendment as a citizen of the US.

By default, none of these terrorists could even apply.

When was the last time you heard of an American hijacking or attempting to blow up an airplane?
No. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Nothing about concealed. Frankly, nothing about the necessity of the right to keep and bear arms NOT in relation to a well regulated Militia.

Apart from that, however, is that citizens of other countries entering this country from anywhere else are not granted or subject to the same rights that our Bill of Rights allows us.

We are indeed dealing with one type of terrrorist now, thank goodness
Sadly, that's not true. Even if it were, it's not like we could only protect ourselves against one group. Would you have us wait until someone else pulls off a successful attack before we plan to stop them?

Face it, arming passengers is not a good idea.

I disagree. They choose the planes because they are a controlled environment and can cause a lot of damage without a lot of "baggage" in terms of carrying supplies. A plane is like a missle, it doesn't just kill people on board, but it can also be pointed in a direction and hit something else.

Additionally a plane has a large volume of people in a small space, completing a similar event else where, with the same casualty count would require more supplies (bombs, etc.) and would be harder to stay under the radar.

I agree completely, I just add to that the fact that it is unlikely they can be stopped aboard a plane.

And we don't track name changes here?

My partner just changed his name, legally, trust me its less automated then one would think, it relies more often on people telling you their name has changed rather then any sort of electronic paper trail.

I agree completely, I just add to that the fact that it is unlikely they can be stopped aboard a plane.

So you agree, giving a terrorist another tool (a gun) legally aboard an aircraft is a bad idea as it would just make it easier.

I believe you are missing the point. Why is it that these Jihadists have specifically chosen our airliners to carry out these attacks? It is precisely because they know that no one on the plane is able to defend themselves.
Sigh... no. It's because they're attacking the United States. They hate us.

What's the point of attacking Ryan Air to protest US involvement in the Middle East?

Apart from that, however, is that citizens of other countries entering this country from anywhere else are not granted or subject to the same rights that our Bill of Rights allows us.
That is not correct. The Supreme Court has found that non-citizens within the US do have constitutional protections.

It might serve you to take a glance at the Equal Protections clause of the 14th amendment.

The effort to arm pilots has been defunded, the chances of their being an air marshall aboard your flight are miniscule at best.
Not sure, again, where you're getting your information.

I don't think you really want to turn this into a 2nd Amendment rights issue do you? Conceal Carry has long been upheld.

And yes, the point that these are foriegn nationals and cannot get permits is key to my point.

Yes, because that would have stopped the shoe bomber, who's name is Richard Reed...

You don't think for a moment that the terrorists won't change tacticts? You don't think they'll start recruting people with names like John Smith that look like someone that grew up in an Iowa corn field?

Honestly, put a little thought into this. Improving the screening to only target those who look/sound/act like people that have attacked or attempted to attack us in the past is EXTREMLY short sighted.

Putting guns on a plane can be even more short sighted. Taking away the inocent bystander and rapid decompresion side affects for a moment. Lets say you have a gun with you on a plane. YOu see the guy across the aisle from you trying to light something on fire. You stand up, pull your gun, and yell "Freeze!". I'm a few rows behind you. I don't see the guy trying to light something, I see a guy with a gun yelling "Freeze". I think you're a terrorist and I pull MY gun and shoot you. The guy with the match lights the bomb and we all go "boom".

Yeah, sounds like a great plan.

What the heck is the topic of this thread?

Sorry - I meant, "in the process of entering", or approaching, and in direct response to shrubber's invoking the 2nd Amendment.
