OK I know this is a silly question but how do you make your nachos? The rason I am asking is everytime I try to metlt shredded chees on tortilla chips either in the microwave or in the oven I ALWAYS over cook the cheese and they come out horrible. Am I that bad at cooking (if you can even call melting cheese on chips cooking) ????

I dont think you could make then, I think you have to buy them :teeth:

1: Go to Wal-MArt.

2: Buy Tostito's spicy cheese.

3: Pay $5.00 for it.

4: Go home.

5: Heat it in the microwave for 5 minutes.

6: get out Tostito's chips.

7: Eat Nachos.

Have tried cheez whiz processed cheese. That you put in the micowaved for a certain time.

This have makes nachos: fritos, chili, and mirowaved the cheez whiz for the require time that's on the jar. Pour the cheez whiz over the fritos and chili topped with hot peppers.

That is so good.

Or the easy way for me is wait for baseball season and get them free.

I make them a few different ways, but I love them from the oven. I preheat the oven to 350. I put tin foil on a cookie sheet and then alternate chips and cheese. I put the nachos into the pre-heated oven for about 3-6 minutes and then presto they are perfect. Just keep an eye on them in the oven. for instance I know that my oven heats up and cooks things fast so most of the time they need only about 4 minutes.

I make nachos all the time!

I take the restaurant size chips and layer them on a plate, sprinkle a little shredded monterey jack/colby chesee on them... add more aches and sprinkle alot more cheese on them to cover the chips. put in preheated oven at 300-350 degrees. Sometimes I put some bushes chili beans in mild sauce unnder the cheesee. just make sure you watch them close in the oven and lower temp/longer time is key. Or you can put them under the broiler.

btw:my keyboard sticks.. sorry!

I melt velvetta cheese and salsa and mix. I put my nachos in the oven to heat them up. Then i take them out and either dip myself or pour it over them. Yummy! Actually i think i am going to make some now!!!

There's a way to make the dip by heating up a couple cans of Campbells soup. One is nacho cheese, and the other is fiesta chilli. Heat and serve. More like a dip

Or if you got time on your hands. Heat a pan of refried beans. With a knife spread the beans on tortilla chips. Top them with a slice of mozzerella cheese and a jalopeno. microwave 40 seconds to melt cheese.

Chop some velvetta cheese & add some Rotel to it & microwave then spoon on chips or dip on chips...OR mix & throw in lil crockpot til melted---YUMM!

I don't think I would be much help on this one -

I have been known to just put shredded cheese on the plate and melt it in the microwave. Then, I take a fork and pry it off, eating the "cheese mass"
My husband thinks I'm crazy.

Talk about eating healthy hua? :thumbsup2

I didn't think this was even possible to be that bad at cooking that you can't do nachos. :rotfl2: There is hope though.

Layer tortilla chips and shredded cheese on plate. I usually start with chips, then cheese, chips, then cheese. And if Im feeling saucy, I make another layer. I put in the micro for 20 second, check, then do 10 more seconds if needed. Always great nachos (well, we just call them chips and cheese). Doing them in the oven takes too long for me. When I want nachos, i want them now. Whole thing should take only 1 minute from set up to them being on the table.

Look at the bright side :) We've had this apt a year and a half, and we've turned on the oven maybe a half-dozen times. (NYC living - pretty common - takeout is the name of our game). So you've GOT to be a better cook than me! :)

Now I'm craving nachos. Darnit!!!

throw chips on a big platter. spoon refried beans on them-doesn't matter if not all chips have beans. Cover chips and beans with shredded cheese. microwave for 1 min 30 secs. remove. add avacado slices and fresh salsa.
eat.

my son likes JUST cheese. i microwave for exactly 60 secs. never burned, some crisp. maybe you are not adding enough cheese.

I do mine under the broiler - lay the chips out on an oven safe plate, top with whatever "warm" toppings you like (meat, beans, whatever), then shred hard cheese all over in a thick layer. Put it under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, keeping an eye on them the whole time. When the cheese is melted, take them out and add whatever "cold " toppings you want (sour cream, salsa, lettuce, tomato, whatever). Eat them right away before they get cold.

Ya'll are making me hungry for nachos!

I don't know what brand it is, but my store carries canned nacho cheese in the "international" section. I love it.

You should write recipe books.

No cheese???
Cmon man! What are worms without cheese?

I think I may have just found my best friend :thumbsup2

I cook ground beef with taco seasoning. Spread ground beef over the chips, put a little bit of nacho cheese sauce from a jar over that, then put the shredded cheese on top.
You can stick it in the oven for a few minutes just until the shredded cheese melts. You can add shredded lettuce and tomato on top when it comes out of the oven. :)

I also like to put refried beans on the nachos I make. I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but it is important to not use the already shredded cheese that you can buy at the grocery. Most of it has some type of perservative on it that prevents it from melting. I always use a grater to shred a block of cheese.
