from TRU. This is a tablet with kids 6+ in mind. Looks good. Anyone know much about it? I was thinking about getting it for DD8 as she is too old for Leappad and I think a little young for a regular tablet. The iPod touch is OK but I can see the small screen getting annoying and her asking for a tablet before long.

DD8 and I like that it can play movies, TV and she can read books on it as well as play games. About the price of an iPod Touch but can do so much more with a larger screen.
Wondering about the quality though. I believe TRU is developing it with an electronics company. I pre-ordered one so I am hoping for the best.

Why not get a Kindle fire, same price better specs?

I thought about the Kindle Fire but decided against it because parental controls are more difficult and so she would have access to a lot of inappropriate content. I am careful to monitor what my kids are doing on the computer but I am not over their shoulder every second so at 8 years old, I would prefer her not have access to so much. Plus this comes pre-loaded with a bunch of kid friendly games, books etc. which the Kindle would not.

My BIL just purchased my niece a Lenovo Tablet. He did not want a kid's pad that cost's almost as much as a real one.

He did a lot of research and decided that this would be the best 8th birthday gift for her. Both my parent's, his parents and my BIL and sister bought it for her birthday.

It has Wi-fi and even without them having internet was able to download a bunch of games and books for her on it.

She will be getting it this weekend.
