MYW with park hoppers---can we do this?

We are AP holders so I am a little rusty on my regular ticket knowledge. We are traveling with my SIL, BIL and 4 nieces and nephews. We are used to park hopping since we have APs, so I think we will be buying hoppers for my family. We don't arrive until noon on our first day, but we'd like to visit the parks that day. Can we buy non park hoppers, use them the first day, and then upgrade to hoppers at guest services on the second day?

You can but why wait? that guest services line can be brutal now with MM+. I stood in it for an hour and there were only 4 people in front of me!

You can, but the price for hopping is the same regardless if there are 2 days or 10 days left on the ticket. On our last trip, we decided to get base tix with WP&M and add hopping when and if we wanted to use it. The way this trip went, we didn't end up wanting to hop at all.
